The Prototype BR-55 Battle Rifle (likely referred to with an X for experimental XBR-55, BXR-55, BRX-55, etc.) is “a prototype long barreled weapon with an optical scope.”[1] The weapon fires 9.5MMx40 FMJ SAP ammunition[2] from a 60 round magazine [3] Issued by Lieutenant Commander Jilan al-Cygni for use during the Harvest event by Staff Sergeant's Avery J. Johnson and Nolan Byrne as well as their militia squads' marksmen during the year 2525.

Trivia

  • This was the first weapon to be used against the Covenant and caused the first death of the aliens by the Humans.
  • The finalized version of the Battle Rifle was tested at a Reach military facility codenamed "CASTLE".
  • Even though the Prototype BR-55's magazine capacity is stated to be 60 rounds, on the cover of Halo: Contact Harvest, the Battle Rifle Avery Johnson is holding has 36 rounds, although it is possible he hasn't reloaded.
