Halo 2

Title Description

Halo 3

Title Description
Slayer Players start with an Assault Rifle.
BRs Each player starts with a Battle Rifle along with the standard Assault Rifle.
Swords Each player will start with a energy sword. There are no weapons on the map except grenades, although equipment and turrets remain the same.
Hammerzeit All players start with a Gravity Hammer and two frag grenades. There are no weapons on the map except grenades, although pick-ups and turrets remain. Players cannot pick up extra grenades or use equipment. This game is basically a knockoff of Swords, except it is played with Gravity Hammers. Also, unlike Swords, this game will end when one person has only 15 kills, instead of 25. However, this is an infrequent gametype. Hammerzeit seems to appear only in Multi Team and Team Melee.
Rockets Each player starts with a rocket launcher with infinite ammo. Rockets and grenades may be found on the map. This gametype can be played free for all or with teams. In Team Rockets, the rocket launcher has infinite ammunition.
Team Snipers Each player starts with a sniper rifle and a magnum. Grenades are on the map and the way to win is the same.
Team Zombie Red team are the humans, they can use any weapon besides heavy weapons and grenades. Blue team are the zombies, they can't use any weapons or grenades, they can only melee. When a blue kills a red, the red has to go blue. Game ends when all players are blue.
Shotty Snipers Each player starts with a sniper rifle and shotgun. Grenades are on the map and the way to win is the same.

Halo: Reach

Title Description
Classic Slayer Two teams of Spartan face off against each other with the only armor ability being sprint.
Classic Rifles 50 kills to win, players spawn with a DMR and a Needle Rifle.
Slayer Pro
  • Two teams of Spartans face off against each other with no radars.
  • This gametype includes two loadouts: Marksman, which has a DMR and two frag grenades; and Warden, which gives the player a Needle Rifle and two Plasma Grenades - the latter loadout is designed for people with less skill. Both loadouts also include the Sprint armor ability.
SVE Slayer (Halo: Reach Multiplayer Beta only) Spartan versus Elite slayer. The blue team are the Spartans while the red team are the Elites. One loadout for each team where spartans spawn with a DMR, 2 frags, magnum, and the sprint ability. Elites spawn with the evade ability, 2 plasma grenades, Needle Rifle, and plasma pistol. Normal weapons spawn on map.
Elite Slayer A team slayer variation where two teams of Elites fight each other. This mode is highly reminiscent of the Covenant variations of the Halo 3 maps as all players spawn with and may only pick up Covenant weaponry. Vehicles in this gametype are restricted to Covenant vehicles.
Slayer DMRs Two teams of Spartans, both teams spawn with DMRs and Magnums.
Arena Slayer
2v2 Slayer/2v2 Slayer DMRs
Shotty Snipers 4 vs. 4 team slayer variant. All players start with sniper rifles and shotguns.
Dino Blasters Elite Slayer with infinite Jetpacks and a bottomless-clip Concussion Rifle.
To The Death!
Classic Rifles
Splockets
Squad Slayer/Squad Slayer DMRs
Bro Slayer/Big Bro Slayer
Anniversary Slayer Slayer in the style of the original Combat Evolved. Armor abilities are disabled, player movement is set to 120%, shield recharge rate to 110%, and melee modifier to 50%. Most uniquely, the M6G magnum's power is drastically increased, mimicking the Combat Evolved's famed M6D pistol.

Halo 4

Title Description
Infinity Slayer Halo 4's default slayer is a twist on the classic modes of past games. Rather than having weapons appear at set spawn points, players earn weapons by scoring points for kills and assists as well as style bonuses. Players use their own custom loadouts.
Slayer Pro Similar to classic slayer modes, the weapons spawn on the map. Players use game-default loadouts.
SWAT Though it received its own playlist in the weeks after launch, SWAT is considered a Slayer variant in Waypoint statistics, and works to advance Slayer commendations.
Team Snipers Virtually identical to the mode in Reach.

Popular Variants

Fiesta Slayer

Slayer where all players spawn with random primary and secondary weapons, which range everything from basic loadout weapons to power weapons.

In Halo 3, Fiesta Slayer was used in the Cinco de Mayo Double EXP weekend hopper, and was an FFA mode. Halo 4 features team-based Fiesta modes in Team Action Sack. Fiesta Slayer will be added to Halo 5: Guardians in the Hammer Storm update.

Team SWAT

Main article: Team SWAT
  • BR and Magnum starts, no shields and 200% damage resistance. The only way for an instant kill is a headshot or a melee. Highly tactical.

'Nades 'n Spades

  • The only way to score points is to stick an opponent or to beat them down, typical kills from an inert gun do not count. Normal speed and shields, Plasma Pistol for a starter weapon with regenerating grenades.

Demolition Derby

  • A variant where players must be in a vehicle to get kills. Players proceed in crashing into each other, or splattering players on the ground in attempt to get kills. Best played on a large open map like Coagulation or Sandtrap. Suggested vehicles: Warthog, Chopper or Ghost; mixing up the vehicle types add extra variety.

Monster Trucks

  • A variant where to kill your opponents, you must splatter, push them off, or assassinate them on customized maps built near cliffs.

Trivia

Hammerzeit ("zeit" being German for "time") is a reference to MC Hammer's song U Can't Touch This. See also Hammer Time.
