Template:Ratings Template:Weapon The MA5K Carbine is a firearm used almost exclusively by United Nations Space Command Special Operations forces, especially by the SPARTAN-IIIs. It is part of the UNSC's ubiquitous MA5 Series.[1][2]

Design details

An alternate configuration of the MA5K used by Kurt-051 during the Battle of Onyx.

The MA5K is a cut-down version of the standard MA5 Individual Combat Weapon System. It is fully automatic and receives a thirty-round magazine of 7.62mm ammunition.[1] The weapon is likely lighter and easier to carry than larger assault weapons. Aesthetically, it resembles a cross between an MA5 ICWS and a BR55 Battle Rifle, and features a stripped-down design that appears almost skeletal. The MA5K can be assembled in various configurations.[3]

It is likely that the MA5K was produced specifically for Special Operations forces because of its lighter frame, which would allow quicker maneuvering and a less visible profile, and probably for its lighter aural signature, which suits the requirements of commando missions well. This would make it well suited for use by Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, as well as by vehicle crews, since it would not take up much room inside a drop pod or a vehicle.

Trivia

  • The 'K' in this weapon's designation follows the tradition of modern German weapons with 'K' in their designations. 'K' stands for "kurz", meaning "short", or "karabiner", meaning "carbine".
