The M99 fires small caliber tungsten rounds, about 5.4mm, or .21 caliber. The M99 negates this by using magnetic forces over chemical propellants as a source of massive acceleration, similar to the operation of the [[M68 Gauss Cannon]] and on a much larger scale, the [[MAC]] Cannon. The rounds hit their target with an immense amount of kinetic energy. During an [[Operation: TREBUCHET]] mission Johnson fires and the round passes through a building and still has enough energy to blow the target apart. The weapon also appears to be able to use input from a laptop for ballistic calculations. It can also interface with other targeting and computer systems for trajectory calculations, such as the [[ARGUS Drone]].

Template:Weapon The M99 Special Application Scoped Rifle, also known as the M99 Stanchion Gauss Rifle is a United Nations Space Command ground firearm. [1]

Operational Use

It was used by Corporal Avery J. Johnson during Operation: KALEIDOSCOPE (a mission where he used an M99 SASR to assassinate Jerald Mulkey Ander, a member of the Secessionist Union). It was also used during Operation: TREBUCHET by Johnson to stop a potentially dangerous Insurrectionist at a local restaurant on the planet Tribute known as the Jim Dandy.

Caliber and Technology

The M99 fires a small .21 caliber/5.4mm tungsten round. The M99 is different from traditional sniper rifles, in that it uses electromagnetic coils instead of chemical propellants as a source of kinetic energy. The M99 is similar to the operation of the M68 Gauss Cannon and on a much larger scale, the MAC Cannon. These weapons rely on the same technology to propel high-density rounds towards their target. The rounds are capable of traveling great distances and still hit their target with an immense amount of kinetic energy. The incredible penetrating power of the M99 was displayed during Operation: TREBUCHET. Sergeant Avery Johnson used the M99 to successfully eliminate a target by firing a round through a building. The weapon is used in conjunction with a portable computer which provides the ballistic calculations necessary for engaging long range targets. The M99 Stanchion can also be integrated with other battle-field systems, most notably the ARGUS Drone for trajectory and ballistic data. The high-velocity achieved using electromagnetic coils, coupled with a computerized targeting system, allows the M99 Special Application Scoped Rifle to have an effective range of 4.5km.

Trivia

  • It is also nicknamed the "Stanchion".
  • Other than the description and picture of the rifle, nothing else is yet known about this weapon.
  • It is an anti-material weapon designed for eliminating bombs and other ordnance at a distance.
  • In real life, there is a Sniper Rifle designated M99. It is in use by the Chinese and fires a 12.7 (.50 Caliber) bullet. [2]
  • There is another firearm designated M99, as seen here: Barrett M99
