The M20 Submachine Gun is the post-Covenant war successor to the M7 SMG.^[1]

The M20 SMG is issued to vehicle crews, security personnel, and Spartans who expect close-quarters combat.^[1]

The M20 SMG is visually very similar to its M7 counterpart, as well as in terms of performance. Like before, the weapon fires pistol-caliber cartridges from a 60-round magazine at a rate of 900 rounds per minute. The M20 is most notably different in its functional design, opting away from the former's caseless cartridges and side-mounted magazine in favor of traditional cased cartridges and a top-mounted magazine.

Gameplay

Changes from M7 SMG in Halo 2: Anniversary

Features a 2x zoom telescopic reflex sight (similar to the M7S)
Ejects shell casings
The magazine is now on the top, similar to the real-life Fabrique National P90 PDW
More damage per round, takes 13-15 shots to kill a fully shielded Spartan
Headshots now deal bonus damage on unshielded targets but not enough to instantly kill them
Maximum ammo doubled, from 180 to 360
