Professor Anders was a crewmember aboard the UNSC Spirit of Fire during the Second Battle of Harvest [1] [2].
One of the early levels in the game involves rescuing Anders from a Covenant outpost. She appears on the battlefield as a hero unit similar to Sergeant Forge, but being simply a professor, likely won't be of much tactical use, but maybe something more likely like a morale, rather than damage, booster.
