In the The Armory after you get your sight checked the Master Gunnery Sergeant (Armory) will tell you to stand on the red square. If you stand on the red square he will say to put your hand on the red touch pad. After he says to put your hand on it walk over to him. From behind his control desk you can press the button. You can even walk around while he says, "Bingo! As you can see..." It won't help you in your game play at all.

You can also find two carts in the room, and push them into the red square. If the boxes are centered more than you are, you will be pushed out of the square.

Another way is to be standing outside the square, then walk up to the switch panel and press "X" when it tells you to do so. The generator will spin as usual, but you will be sucked in towards the square and be pushed out by the spinning bars until it stops.
