New Mombasa Slipspace Event

The New Mombasa Slipspace Event[2] was the in-atmosphere activation of the Solemn Penance's slipspace drive over the human city of Mombasa, East African Protectorate on Earth.[3]
History
On October 20, 2552, a CAS-class assault carrier under the command of the Prophet of Regret came to rest above the Earth city of Mombasa. Outnumbered by UNSC forces, the Prophet activated the slipspace drive of his ship Solemn Penance. This placed a gateway to slipspace near the New Mombasa Orbital Elevator. The UNSC In Amber Clad was the closest ship and chased after the carrier as it entered the event horizon. When the gateway closed, a massive shockwave enveloped the city[4] and a massive crater was created northeast of the city.[5]
The shockwave knocked a squad of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers off course while they attempted to drop into the city.[1] Another squad of ODSTs already on the ground, were presumed KIA after the event had taken place.[6] Following the shockwave, a blue aurora like effect engulfed the city. The city's orbital elevator took the brunt of the blast[7] and remained standing for half an hour.[8]
Aftermath
Sometime after this event, the UNSC reactivated the former NATO base Outpost C9.[2]
The orbital elevator eventually collapsed, launching stabilization rings across the remainder of Mombasa.[8] The rest of the Mombasa Tether fell northwest of the city across the East African savannah, with parts being seen in and around Tsavo.[9]
Numerous UNSC forces were also sent to chase the In Amber Clad. This included the UNSC Coral Sea, UNSC Dusk, UNSC Redoubtable and the UNSC Paris.[10] The In Amber Clad with the Solemn Penance,[11] the Coral Sea,[12] and the Dusk[13] all made it Installation 05. Along with the ships, buildings from the gateway site came with the Solemn Penance to the Halo ring.[11]
