There are two methods to this glitch, the second being the more painstaking.
There are many methods to perform this glitch, some more painstaking than others.

Another method requires that you first remove all Fusion Coils and Plasma Batteries from Sandtrap using Forge.. Then, inside of an Elephant, spawn as many Fusion Coils and Plasma Batteries as possible -- preferably in the back area. Then, set both items' Run-Time Minimum settings to the highest possible values. From here, you may detonate the group of explosives using any method, though Hornet missiles can create an even more spectacular result than other methods.

Proceed like method two, except after you place all the fusion coils, you the place a trip mine on top, then use the Immediate Spawn technique and throw them off the front. Then, before they explode, get in the driver seat, and drive on top of them. After so, hang on.

Method Four
This method is the easiest, quickest, and can be tweaked to perfection, by using Forge. Place a grav lift in the centre of the elephant on the bottom floor, near the holographic screen, and set its "respawn time" to 30 or more (not Never), and "resprang at start" to No. Start a new round, and quickly (depending on the respawn time set) go to the elephant which has the grav lift, (which should not have spawned yet) place one or two drop-pods were the grav lift would be. When the grav lift spawns in, the drop pods will be pushed by the grav lift, which will push the elephant in the air. More grav lifts and drop pods can be placed in different positions about the elephant, including the cockpit, to force the elephant in different directions.
Method Five
This method is very similar to method four, as it uses the "Grav lift-Drop pod" technique. Drive the elephant away from where it would start, place a drop-pod on the centre of where it would appear at the start of a game. You can delay the respawn time of the drop-pod if you like, as explained in method four. Now place a grav lift on the same spot as the drop-pod. Start a new round, and the grav lift will push the drop-pod into the elephant into the air from beneath.

You DO NOT need Forge for this method. Sometimes in matchmaking or large custom games, the elephant will begin to sink into the ground for some reason. When objects begin to sink in the ground, they will be forced back out. The reason why they sink is most likely caused by lag. In the case of the elephant, when it sinks too much, it will be shot out of the ground and the elephant will be sent flying. Usually it isn't sent too high. But in cases of extreme lag, it can be shot all the way across the map. In most cases, the elephant will simply do a barrel roll and land upside down which will give you the hidden elephant message. The more people and objects that are on the elephant, the more likely it is to glitch. A theory is that this is caused by the "bump" in Halo 3 where when you approach objects you can interact with, they will "bump".
