During the battle, he and his squad was in [[Gunnery Sergeant]] [[Pete Stacker]]'s [[Dropship 77-Troop Carrier Pelican|D77-TC Pelican dropship]] when it was shot down on approach to an area in [[New Mombasa]], [[Kenya]].  
Like all ODSTs, Walpole is very tough and professional. He is an excellent marksman, and is not afraid of enemy snipers. He also has a notable sense of humor, even in combat, as evidenced by his desire to provide the Kig-Yar a "Welcome to Earth" 'gift basket'. When he is being held hostage by a Sangheili, he orders the team to kill the Sangheili instead of saving him.{{Ref/Reuse|beach}}


After their Pelican was shot down by a [[Scarab]], they reported that the two pilots and [[O'Brien]] were killed. They quickly moved out to get better cover, and headed toward [[Hotel Zanzibar]] in [[Old Mombasa]].

There, GySgt Stacker and his team saw the charging soldier, only after it had held [[Jones]] as a prisoner. [[Butkis]] opened fire with an overcharged [[Plasma Pistol]] at the [[Sangheili]], as Stacker gave the [[Sangheili Minor]] his last breath with three rounds from his [[Battle Rifle]].

Walpole was a UNSC Marine sharpshooter and Orbital Drop Shock Trooper stationed at Earth in 2552. He was under the command of Gunnery Sergeant Marcus Stacker, part of the 7th Orbital Drop Shock Trooper Battalion of the 105th Shock Troops Division.[1]

Biography[edit]

Battle of Mombasa[edit]

During the Battle of Mombasa, Walpole and his squad were dispatched from the UNSC In Amber Clad from Cairo Station to relieve the UNSC's ground forces and to board the Covenant assault carrier, Solemn Penance. Shortly after deployment, their D77-TC Pelican dropship was shot down over Old Mombasa by a Protos-pattern Scarab walker. He survived the crash, but his squad was soon attacked by a Covenant patrol.[1]

Production notes[edit]

Walpole is named after Nathan Walpole, a Bungie employee who worked on the animations in Halo 2, including Another Day at the Beach.[3]
