Halo: Uprising is a four-issue American comic book limited series set in the Halo universe. The run, published by Marvel Comics, tells the story between the ending of Halo 2 and the beginning of Halo 3. The first issue was released on August 22, 2007, but due to the high number of delays, this was more than a month after the original date. The second issue was released on November 21, and the third and fourth issues are due to be released in 2008. The story was written by Brian Michael Bendis, and illustrated by Alex Maleev.
The Halo Uprising series was announced at the NY Comicon 2007. The first issue was pushed back for an unknown reason from July 18, 2007 to August 22, 2007. The Halo Uprising Series is a 40 page, 4 issue, comic series, with full color that is meant to bridge the gap between Halo 2 and Halo 3. The comic book series are published by Marvel Comics. All release dates are to be considered highly tentative and delays are highly probable.

The series was brought together by Ruwan Jayatilleke, who landed the license to publish Halo comics, including the one-shot Halo Graphic Novel in 2005. Jayatilleke also served as the series' editor. Brian Michael Bendis, writer for the series, said in an interview he was "honored" to add to the Halo lore. Reception to the series was lukewarm, with the artistic style usually praised. On the other hand, the lack of Master Chief-focused action and character development -as well as the delays in publishing- led to average reviews.
Issue #1 (first edition) of Halo Uprising sold out in less than 24 hours. Due to its popularity they have become rare and are selling in comic book stores for anywhere from $7.00 to $12.00. Graded copies are priced at $65.00 on Amazon.com. A second edition was also printed. It has a black-and-white cover but the inside contents are in color.

The story picks up right after the events of  Halo 2, and follows three concurrent storylines as the Human-Covenant War escalates.  The first concerns the Master Chief aboard the Forerunner ship he stowed away on after leaving High Charity.  On course for Earth, the Chief is rendered unconscious and captured by an overwhelming Covenant strike force. Meanwhile, on Mars Colonel James Ackerson is being tortured by Covenant forces, to whom he betrays the existence of something called "The Key of Osanalan." Further abuse forces him to give up Cleveland, Ohio as the location of the Key. In Cleveland, the narrative follows the point of view of a hotel worker observing in horror the siege of the city. In the mayhem he meets a woman trying to keep her wits about her, while he edges closer and closer to all out panic. As they and the populace of the city are rounded up and herded into a local sports stadium, he reveals to his new companion that not only does he know what the key is, but also where it is located.

 • Q:"How much of this civil war plays into your Covenant-based plot?"

A:"Not too much. It is referenced but it's not really the focus of the story."

 • Q:"Will the Flood and/or Gravemind be involved? Will Cortana?"

A:"I can't say much about the Flood for now, but Cortana and the Master Chief were separated at the end of Halo 2, and our story is with him - so no Cortana."

 • "Cliffhangers galore from issue to issue. But the story itself should have some resolution and a lot of hope for the future Halo stories."
