A Task Force is an organization of Covenant ships, usually organized on a temporary basis and for a specific mission. A Task Force is smaller than a Fleet. It is the rough equivalent of a UNSC Battle Group in terms of the number of ships. It is commanded by a Zealot Elite with the title of Fleet Master.
Task forces usually contain anywhere from a handful of ships to several dozen. Task forces are not named as Covenant fleets are, and there has been no indication if their temporary nature renders them any naming merit at all.
Known Task Forces
- Another Covenant task force, referred to as Regret's Fleet, was sent to Earth, led by the Prophet of Regret. Regret's intent was to claim the Forerunner Artifact buried under the planet, but it was defeated in the Battle of Earth. It numbered fifteen ships, two Assault Carriers and thirteen CCS-class Battlecruisers.[1]
- Voro Nar 'Mantakree was put in charge of a task force by Imperial Admiral Xytan 'Jar Wattinree to pursue the captured Bloodied Spirit. Most of this Fleet was destroyed in the Battle of Onyx.[2]
