The Surface-to-Air Missile Launcher[1], abbreviated as the SAM Site and colloquially known as the "Big Ass Mortar Gun"[2] or the "B.A.N.G.", is a ground-based missile emplacement in use by the United Nations Space Command.

Introduction

The Surface-to-Air Missile Launcher is a large three-barreled mortar emplacement. It is featured in the Halo 3 Halo 3 multiplayer level High Ground, and as of the Halo 3 Beta, has not been seen in action. However, it has been hinted to be able to fire mortar shells at ground targets. This contradicts its official name, which notes that it fires missiles at aerial targets.

Appearances

  • Halo 3, High Ground - far back of the defensive base, next to a UNSC Mongoose ATV

Background

Nothing is really known about the gun apart from it appears to play a significant part in the level High Ground. Template:Conjecturalization It has been speculated to act like the Automatic Turrets in the Halo 3 multiplayer level Snowbound, which shoots players venturing outside map borders. That is very possible, because this picture shows a beach area marked with the text "Mortar Area". Template:Conjecturalization End It is unknown if it can be controlled by the players.
