A bloodblade[Note 1] is the name provided to red-colored fireblades used by the Covenant and its remnants.[6][7]
OverviewEdit
Design detailsEdit
- Main article: Energy sword (fiction)
Bloodblades are energy swords that possess red-colored plasma blades instead of blue-colored ones. They are not exclusive to a specific pattern of fireblade, as they have been seen as Meluth'qelos-pattern fireblades,[8] Pelosus-pattern fireblades,[9][10] and two unidentified patterns.[11][12] In contrast with traditional energy swords—which often represent a Sangheili's martial prowess and honor—the bloodblade is more specifically seen as a symbol of fear.[13]
UsageEdit
Bloodblades were used by assassins and Special Operations Sangheili,[3] such as the Silent Shadow.[6][13][14] One of their known uses was at the Algolis Invasion in 2549, during the Human-Covenant War, in the attempted execution of Atriox.[10] They were also seen in the defense of a Covenant moon base.[12] Bloodblades were also in use with the Banished, with one being in the possession of Jega 'Rdomnai as his personal energy sword during the Battle for Zeta Halo in 2560.[8][13] After John-117 defeated 'Rdomnai, the Spartan kept the Sangheili's personal Bloodblade as a memento.[15][16]
Bloodblades were also sometimes used in the UNSC's War Games simulation, like in Infection sessions.[9][17]
In-game informationEdit
Halo 3Edit
- "Hidden. Active. Deadly. The Silent Shadow have been. The Silent Shadow remain."
- — In-game description[11]
The bloodblade is available in the Halo 3 portion of Halo: The Master Chief Collection as a skin for the energy sword.
Halo 2: AnniversaryEdit
In Halo 2: Anniversary multiplayer, the Bloodblade appears as the Infected Energy Sword, sometimes shortened as Infected Sword. It is exclusively used by zombies in Halo 2: Anniversary's Infection mode.
Halo InfiniteEdit
- "Once the personal Energy Sword of Jega 'Rdomnai—now a hard-won memento of his defeat."
- — In-game description[16]
The Elite Bloodblade is a legendary weapon in the campaign of Halo Infinite. It can be acquired and wielded after the player has defeated Jega 'Rdomnai in House of Reckoning. The difference with the standard energy sword is mostly in appearance; the blade features red coloration, and enemies slain by the bloodblade disintegrate like they would if killed by a Forerunner hard light weapon. It can be acquired at any Forward Operating Base following the completion of the level.
