Blogs

The policy on blogs was established in 2008 to prevent the recent changes page being filled with poor-quality and useless blogs (eg. "LAWL I MADE A BLOG"). It was decided that the following criteria should be met:

 1. It should be of appropriate length
 2. It should be well-written
 3. It should be related to Halo; Halopedia or a major aspect of the Halo community
 4. It should not be an advertisement for a product; website or Halo clan

I'll look for the page; we removed a lot of policy pages after Halopedia, the community being hosted by this wiki, left the site, removing policies that no longer applied. I'm sure I've read it recently, and even asked 118 to link to it on the community-corner so that bloggers can't file the exact complaint/question you just filed out.-- Forerunner 18:05, April 24, 2011 (UTC)

Hey

Where are admins when we need them ? We need more. And Happy Easter ( I know its late but stores are still selling REESES chocolate eggs). Lt. Colonel Eli Reznov14:26, April 26, 2011 (UTC)

Legendary Elite

You haven't played Winter Contingency on Legendary, have you? Either play it on that difficulty or watch this video because the elite exists, it's the first enemy you encounter in Halo: Reach, and it's not a figment of my imagination.

Your accidents ...

Are getting way out of control. The pictures were understandible, but how can you accidently create a new page ? If I were you I would be more careful becuase you look like your hogging points. Lt. Colonel Talk 12:03, April 29, 2011 (UTC)

That was the second mistake I made and immediatly restore it, so I don't see the point. And that new page wasn't created by me, but someone on my laptop while I wasn't looking. The instant I noticed it I marked it for deletion. Wilc0 12:04, April 29, 2011 (UTC)

That is why never liked to let someone else use my account. One more thing I almost forgot Lt. Colonel Talk 12:19, April 29, 2011 (UTC)

I didn't 'let' him, it was my nephew who thought he was funny... As I said, I wasn't looking at the time. Wilc0 17:29, April 29, 2011 (UTC)

UNSC redirect thing

(also posted on Forerunner's talk page) I don't think Forerunner actually runs a bot (correct me if I'm mistaken), and there are any active bot-flagged accounts on the wiki. I myself have one, and I'd be happy to make this kind of change. The 888th Avatar (talk) 11:52, May 5, 2011 (UTC)

You're welcome. One little thing though — my bot doesn't have a bot flag on this wiki, so there may be some recent change flood. I might do a couple of dozen at a time so that the page doesn't become useless. :) The 888th Avatar (talk) 12:17, May 5, 2011 (UTC)
Unfortunately, I can't do that — not even admins and bureaucrats can. If you want to be invisible from recent changes, you need to be marked as a bot, which needs to be requested from Wikia. You'll need some kind of automated editing program/script and community approval, though. The 888th Avatar (talk) 12:38, May 5, 2011 (UTC)
I would, but I don't think Wikia lets people use bot flags unless they're actually operating some kind of bot script or program. Sorry. I also recommend something like AutoWikiBrowser to you; it would make repetitive link changes a lot quicker. :) The 888th Avatar (talk) 12:43, May 5, 2011 (UTC)

Hey

Hi. Im new to this wiki. MY QUESTION IS: How can I edit my signature? Because I hate my signature.

 • To be honest, I have no clue. Try Forerunner Wilc0 09:50, May 8, 2011 (UTC)

hey wilco

thanks for the advice to recover my old profile but when i do can i use that account on xbox live like for halo reach?

because someone told me that if i do that, the only thing i can do is look at the achievements on the profile and thats it! but maybe it can work

have u done it before?

Necrokiller 13:04, May 8, 2011 (UTC)

thanks anyways cause i only have a black that has only a internal device!

but i guess ill start over for the 5th time on reach

when i do whats your gamertag incase u want to play reach!

one last thing, how do u rank up fast, like really fast, besides skill cause i have lots, especially as Sangheili!

UNSC Pages

How did you get the Major Achievement? I have only found 6 pages that I get points for. The UNSC, UNSCDF, The Army, The Navy, The Air Force, and The Marines. Do you know of any others? Jedijam91 13:53, May 11, 2011 (UTC)

 • All pages starting with UNSC count, so UNSC Vessels and such too. Wilc0 15:15, May 11, 2011 (UTC)
 • Thanks. I just figured that anything related to the UNSC would count. Oh well back to editing. Jedijam91 03:22, May 12, 2011 (UTC)

ForeBot

ForeBot does not delete "good links". It, like all AWB bots, is notified if an article has too many internal links - having a link for every usage of a particular name is completely unnecessary.-- Forerunner 18:21, May 11, 2011 (UTC)

I checked on the <br/> issue - it is there for a purpose. Starting an entry on an infobox field with an asterisk doesn't work - it shows the asterisk, not the bullet point.-- Forerunner 18:26, May 11, 2011 (UTC)
It deletes the first links it comes across, such as 2551 or UNSC. Please watch it's latest edits and you'll see what I mean (the ones I reverted). Wilc0 18:23, May 11, 2011 (UTC)
It removed the first instance because that was within the infobox - were you to have only one hyperlink, a lot of links regarding the object of interest's history (eg. a UNSC frigate) would be there rather than within the actual text.-- Forerunner 18:26, May 11, 2011 (UTC)

wilco how the heck am i spamming, i am not righting useless junk, stuff i say is true and i am adding little things to make them more truthful, i am not writing anything useless like putting that unsc sucks and covenant rule! i am putting facts! okay if u think i am spamming tell me what i do to spam!

and if i do it wrong just teahc me how to do it right cause i suck a puncuation!

i probably will just edit the sangheili page if thats all right with u!

RE:Edits to Helljumper611's page

Consider this your first warning. Your addition of the delete template to his userpage is not acceptable. Do not do this again. If you have an issue with what a user is doing on wikia, drop him a message. Stay frosty. [Sometimes, it's all about the glory.] [Put your boot up enough alien backside and the corps will pin rows of medals on your chest.][Bad ass, unlocked.]

Actually, regarding Rollback, get on the Internet Relay Chat and join #halopedia. We'll chat there. [Sometimes, it's all about the glory.] [Put your boot up enough alien backside and the corps will pin rows of medals on your chest.][Bad ass, unlocked.]

Yeah man come on to the IRC so we can talk,we have many members who talk there :)Dorminator 17:33, May 18, 2011 (UTC)

ok man,i'll see u there asap and we'll talk (: Dorminator 17:12, May 19, 2011 (UTC)

reply to email

nothing was wrong with the chat, you did everything fine. its just that nobody was at their computer, thats why there was no reply (kestrel was also away at that moment).you need to stay logged on to the IRC longer if u want to catch up in a chat,as well as visit it more often.trust me, it will benefit you if u do just that. kestrel is back now so if you see this message soon enough u can log on again and catch him if your lucky. Dorminator 18:38, May 20, 2011 (UTC)

I'm not on at the moment - and likely the channel is simply busy/at work. Tr again in about three hours - I'll be here then. Also try #halo-fanon - the Halo Fan Fiction wikia IRC channel. They are much more talkative. [Sometimes, it's all about the glory.] [Put your boot up enough alien backside and the corps will pin rows of medals on your chest.][Bad ass, unlocked.]

Edit Spree

Hi, just two notes. Your edits are very, very, extremely minor. Many of your edits are changing links (for example, changing "Installation 04 (II)" to "Installation 04B", and both of them leads to the same page), go to the Recent Changes page and you will see many of your edits are just <insert "add" or "minus" here> 8 letters or even less. Do check the "This is a minor edit" box, as it is part of the rules. Another thing, you do not "fix" people's comment on talk pages or blogs. We are a bit strict here compared to Halo Nation. Have a good day. :) —S331 (TalkContributions) 10:18, 23 May 2011 (EDT)

 • Is there any way to mark my edits standard as minor? Because I will make those edits a lot. And about me 'fixing' blog/talk-posts, I don't know it was forbidden, but I frankly don't see whats wrong with it as I don't add sentences or anything, just invisbile editing. I just jump on (figure of speech) auto-pilot and change all links to a certain page, no matter what kind of page it is. Wilc0 (Talk page) 11:45, 23 May 2011 (EDT)

About the minor edits, yes, there is a way. Look below the Navigation box on the left of the screen and you should see the list "Recent changes", "My watchlist", "Special pages", etc. Go to Preferences > Editing > Advanced options and the eighth one on the list should a checkbox that reads "Mark all edits minor by default". You check it and press save. Done. But once again, I think your link-fixing edits are are quite unnecessary, since Ghost and Ghost both lead to the same page, and typing down Ghost would make the page memory bigger, making it hard for other editors to load the page when reading or editing the article. If you are having troubles getting to the Preferences, simply press "Control" (or "Command" on Mac) and "F" on your keyboard to find the word like "Preferences" and "Minor Edit". —S331 (TalkContributions) 12:03, 23 May 2011 (EDT)

I agree that his edits should be marked as minor, but there's nothing really wrong with the edits themselves. Fixing those redirect links by changing them to link directly to the article itself rather than the redirect is constructive in the sense that you don't have redirects pointing you to the actual article, only when people search for it so it actually reduces the server load. Same reason we fix double redirects.

To Wilc0, the reason we generally frown upon the editing of comments is that the original text the user wrote should be visible to members so it is interpreted the way they were written, as well as a number of other reasons. The author is free to change their wording if he/she is misunderstood but it doesn't make sense for others to it for them; you might change their meaning entirely, which again leads to misunderstandings, and worst still, not within their control. - Nìcmávr (Tálk) 12:45, 23 May 2011 (EDT)

 • I get it that I'm not supposed to change someone else's blog/user page, I truly do. But change 'redirec-links' to regular links isn't forbidden is it? If I change a links link UNSC into, UNSC, well that's a whole other story. But you won't find me doing stuff like that ;)

Wilc0 (Talk page) 13:11, 23 May 2011 (EDT)

Couple of points about your contributions. First, with plurals, you don't need to make a piped link like UNSC frigates. UNSC frigates works just as well; the rest of the word is automatically taken as part of the link. Second, link UNSC ship articles with the UNSCShip template, like this: Pillar of Autumn, which appears as UNSC Pillar of Autumn. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 14:07, 23 May 2011 (EDT)

"Say no to war"

Before we get into an edit war, I would like to explain myself clearly... (I'm sending it as a later message so that you don't revert before getting it).-- Forerunner 15:25, 24 May 2011 (EDT)

The following excerpt is from Long Night of Solace.

Catherine-B320: "Remember that accident a couple years back? Colony ship en route to Cygnus. Seven hundred dead?"
Carter-A259: "Vaguely. A slipspace drive malfunction, right?"
Catherine-B320: "Actually, it worked fine. The drive was mounted improperly after a service haul-out. When it fired, it...teleported half the ship to oblivion."

From what we can piece together here the slipspace drive opened up a hole slipspace as intended, but improper fitting led to the hole collapsing on the vessel while still travelling through. The consequence of this action was the deaths of seven hundred people, who were either exposed to vacuum or died from suffocation as the air runs out.

A re-creation of the incident conducted on the Long Night of Solace.

As we can see in this picture a hole is punched in slipspace but does not encompass the entire supercarrier before collapsing. The Ardent Prayer is invisible here, and so it can be assumed that it has been sent into slipspace, based on the radius of the resulting spherical hole being able to reach the topside of the Long Night of Solace which, when multiplied by two (to make the diameter), is longer than the dimentions of the Ardent Prayer. Being sent into slipspace entirely would of course mean that the Ardent Prayer was left un-damaged by the opening and be able to support life.

The fate of Jorge-052 is left to the player's imagination, though it would appear, based on the above evidence, that he died after activating the "Slipspace bomb" (referred to as such due to its destructive capability, not any explosive capability) - I believe, personally, that he was killed after the Covenant fleet hiding in slipspace were alerted to the attack.-- Forerunner 15:44, 24 May 2011 (EDT)

But (not seen in the picture you posted) you can clearly see yellow lining on the edged of the ship, as if someone welded it. This clearly show that anyone inside the sphere is instantly vaporized... This is why I think he was dead, as there is no way he could have that far after a mere 6 seconds (counting from dropping Noble Six out of the ship). So He is just vaporized. Wilc0 (Talk page) 15:47, 24 May 2011 (EDT)
You make a good point, though Kat's second line suggests that the colony ship wasn't vaporised - if it did so, then why would she use such an easily-misleading and suggestive? In a time where teleportation in and out of space is common-knowledge and wide-spread, such a usage of the word would almost guarentee a relation to "slipspace". Perhaps something else caused the heating on the supercarrier other than vaporization - it could be that the energy released by the opening is intense enough to heat metals significantly if off-centre, or that the opening triggered explosions along the bulkheads. Further, I would like to point out that the source at the end of the section you referred me to gives the level as a source though, as I have shown, this is somewhat-controversial and may be speculative. There is no doubt, however, that Jorge's status is still deceased, and so I propose that the wording is instead changed to something along the lines of "Jorge was killed after he sent the Ardent Prayer into slipspace, taking half of the Long Night of Solace with it - this leaves it factual and does not disambiguate onto whether or not he was dead before the hole closed.-- Forerunner 16:01, 24 May 2011 (EDT)
You refer to her second line as indicating that it didn't explode, in my book 'to oblivion' doen't mean a good thing. On the other hand, it can suggest that everything inside the sphere was simply teleported into slipspace without an option to return to regular space. I think we can conclude from both these points that Jorge is dead. But if he died inside a huge ball of all-consuming "something" or teleported into slipspace where he wouldn't have lived long (check Halo: Contact Harvest about 'weather' inside slipspace), I still think it's right to say Noble Six saw everybody on his team die. If someone is sucked out of an airplane due to explosive decompression you can still say you saw him/her die, even though he/she would have lived a (relatively) long time from falling from the sky. That's my point of view ;-) Wilc0 (Talk page) 16:16, 24 May 2011 (EDT)
I again see your point. I was thinking more in the personal aspect of "witnessing their death" as opposed to the more general though equally as acceptable aspect of "witnessing what caused their death" - you're a witness to a parachute-related death even if you didn't see them actually hit the ground, and it can be argued B312 bore witness to Jorge's death from an in-personnal perspective, simply seeing him go to his death.-- Forerunner 16:24, 24 May 2011 (EDT)

I apologise for this interruption but as for your comment, "I still think it's right to say Noble Six saw everybody on his team die"; do note that Six did not witness Jun's death. — subtank 16:34, 24 May 2011 (EDT)

I thought the DYK in question said that he witnessed the deaths of all team members who died.-- Forerunner 17:19, 24 May 2011 (EDT)
Ah, my mistake then. Best to keep that sentence out of DYK still to avoid confusions such as this though.— subtank 17:25, 24 May 2011 (EDT)

Redirects

Take a look at Special:ListRedirects. If you see any unnecessary redirects (eg. little/no use; misspelled; uncommon wordset), unlink them and add in Unnecessary/unused redirect. If you see talkpage redirects they can go immediately.-- Forerunner 13:29, 25 May 2011 (EDT)

I will, but not now :-P Thanks for understanding, as you already noticed, not everyone thinks it's necessary. Wilc0 (Talk page) 16:37, 25 May 2011 (EDT)
I've been doing a lot lately, too. If you have a result on a talk page, hide it but keep the comment the same.
eg. 7 becomes 7. I can edit userpages and blogs and will help you there. Another means of redirect searching is to use WhatLinksHere on specific pages (eg.UNSC Pillar of Autumn) so that you can find unused/misspelled redirects for that page. Popular pages should yeild some results. Try targetting pages on CMA ships - I've been delinking their incorrect UNSC-prefix redirects (eg. UNSC Argo-> CMA Argo)-- Forerunner 14:02, 26 May 2011 (EDT)
So as long as I don't edit the 'story' it's ok? I wont ;-) Wilc0 (Talk page) 14:05, 26 May 2011 (EDT)

Titanium-A

RE: Urban Holland

Actually, there were multiple stupid edits on that page, and as no content has been forcasted with his inclusion in it, a year-long block was put in place. I've removed the protection on the page for you to work on it immediately, please note that I will close it when you are done with the work on it (message me when you are done) or i'll close it without warning this evening between 5pm to 7pm Pacific Standard Time.

Thanks for your fine work and have a great day!

Clarification on "human" capitalization issue

In case of "Human-Covenant War", the word is capitalized because that is specified to be the official title for the conflict in a canon source. Conversely, human-Forerunner wars is a descriptive title and thus neither "human" or "wars" are capitalized. However, even though it's not a proper noun in itself (i.e. capitalized in every instance) it's still like any other word - thus, it's capitalized when starting a sentence or in templates such as Era (the "Human" era in the era template won't work if it's written in lowercase). --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 06:37, 29 June 2011 (EDT)

RE: Insurrectionist

You're right, that was a mistake. Though I intended to use the word in a general sense, like "rebel", it is ultimately a word that should be capitalized since it (in a Halo related context) most often refers to the specific group of rebels during the Insurrection. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 05:27, 30 June 2011 (EDT)

 • It's ok :-D I see you already took care of it.

Deletion

Hey when you are tagging a redirect for deletion, make sure you are following the new deletion rules. PRESIDENT1234 13:18, 2 July 2011 (EDT)

Location capitalizations

Since you moved Assembly Forges and Tower Districts to "Assembly forges" and "Tower districts", I thought it might be in order to explain why I reverted those. For future reference, even though we don't arbitrarily capitalize every word in titles like we used to, it's not preferable to remove capitalizations found in official material unless there's a proper reason to do so - e.g. certain ship types (frigate, carrier, etc.) are rendered as proper nouns in the Visual Guide, but we don't capitalize them for the sake of consistency and because they're not capitalized in the novels.

However, "Assembly Forges" is rendered as a proper name in every instance in the visual guide and there is no contradictory information in any other source, so we go with the official name. Besides, it's extremely commonplace, in English at least, to capitalize every word in place names even if those words aren't proper nouns in themselves. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 12:40, 26 August 2011 (EDT)

No problem. To add to the above, terms like combat knife or flash cloning aren't proper names and as such shouldn't be capitalized in links. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 14:19, 26 August 2011 (EDT)

Re:Double Redirects

I also can't seem to be able to fix them, sounds like a technical bug so I've contacted the techs to fix it. Should be resolved soon. - Nìcmávr (Tálk) 07:19, 30 August 2011 (EDT)
