Sangheili Generals typically serve as [[Field Master]]s. They are rather similar to [[Jiralhanae]] [[Jiralhanae Chieftain|chieftains]] in terms of command role and combat behavior. Some fight aggressively with [[Type-1 Energy Weapon/Sword|energy swords]], while others make use of heavy weapons such as [[Type-33 Light Anti-Armor Weapon|fuel rod guns]], [[Type-52 Guided Munitions Launcher/Explosive|plasma launchers]], and [[Type-50 Directed Energy Rifle/Heavy|concussion rifles]]. They are often found overseeing important tactical locations or leading large groups of soldiers into battle. General-class Sangheili also serve as [[Shipmaster]]s on some vessels. While they are stronger than Sangheili soldiers of most other ranks, they are more aggressive; if their shields are taken down, they tend to ignore this fact and continue their attacks.

How the player approaches an elite general depends on the type of weapon you are carrying, It's typically best to keep your distance between yourself and a general as they are fast and their melee is typically deadly depleting shields in one hit on higher difficulties. General is a high Sangheili rank in the Covenant. Generals typically command large groups of infantry and vehicles during ground engagements.

New to Halo: Reach general's are the equivalent to the Brute Chieftain like other high ranking members in the Covenant the sangheili general tend to only wield superior weaponry and tend to apply more advanced battle tactics in the field, they are also more likely to employ equipment such as Armor Lock. How the player approaches an elite general depends on the type of weapon you are carrying, It's typically best to keep your distance between yourself and a general as they are fast and their melee is typically deadly depleting shields in one hit on higher difficulties. On the other hand a general wielding a fuel rod gun or a plasma launcher will not fire the weapon at close range meaning it will typically pay to use a weapon like the Plasma Pistol and a Type-1 Antipersonnel Grenade to take down a general.
