Moonbase Alpha, also known as Spacecamp, is the codename for one of the Halo 3 Downloadable Content multiplayer maps from an upcoming map-pack. It has been described that its fairly large, and is best suited for games such as Capture The Flag and Assault. It has also been stated that it has some unique characteristics that make Slayer interesting and Infection terrifying. In one of the Bungie Weekly Updates it said that fans of Elongation would enjoy the map[1]. This does not mean it is a remake or a spiritual successor, but could relate to the fact Elongation is on a cargo ship on the other side of earth when it was first attacked. In the weekly update from January 11th, Frankie says there is a large chasm with an unlockable jump - in its locked state, the jump is almost always deadly, but unlocked it is an easy shortcut. There are also large opening doors somewhere on the map.

Trivia

  • The name Moonbase Alpha may or may not be a reference to a line said by a character in the Austin Powers movie franchise or from the TV show Spaced.
  • It may also be a reference to the moon base featured in Space: 1999 a short-lived (1975-77) science fiction series created by Gerry Anderson for ITC Entertainment. Starring Martin Landau and Barbara Bain, the series concerned the adventures of the occupants of Moonbase Alpha after the moon was blasted out of Earth orbit due to a nuclear explosion. The explosion was caused by an accident involving nuclear waste storage on the moon.
  • Bungie mentioned that a memorial dedicated to the inventors of the Shaw-Fujikawa Translight Engine can be found somewhere on the map.
  • In the level Cairo Station from Halo 2, there is an announcement over the intercom mentioning something about Moonbase Alpha.[verification needed]
