- To wield the Traveler's light and push back the Darkness...wait, wrong game. I think as per their name they are guarding some important Forerunner installation, or maybe even an ancient secret. - Lol. Anyway, to answer the question, maybe they are protectors of Forerunner technology. We know the Librarian wants humanity to acquire Forerunner tech so they ca inherit the Mantle of Responsibility, so maybe John was called ("The Master Chief is called, but you, your passage is denied!" - Warden Eternal) to start the reclamation and use the Guardians to access Forerunner tech/The Domain or something. -- Topal the Pilot (Talk|Contribs) 23:08, 20 September 2015 (EDT)

- Halo 5 takes off 8 months after Halo 4 which would be May 2558, months before the Absolute Record thing went on. I smell a time jump between Ardent Moon mission and when the Guardians rise from the ground. Alertfiend (talk) 23:47, 20 September 2015 (EDT)
