Blow Me Away is a song from the Halo 2 Vol. 1 soundtrack (Track 2) by the post-grunge band Breaking Benjamin. The song was written specifically for the soundtrack, and was later featured on the band's 2004 EP So Cold (Track 2). The song plays for 3 minutes and 25 seconds (3:25.4). The song also earned moderate success on music charts though is mainly known for it's appearance in Halo 2, where it is still considered the top song in the soundtrack by a lot of Halo gamers.

This track plays during the battle between the Brutes, Hunters, and the Elites in the Mausoleum of the Arbiter at the end of level Gravemind, though it plays with the lyrics almost muted. If you listen closely, you can hear the lyrics proving that is not a instrumental version. It will play on a loop until all enemies on both sides are dead. Interestingly, the intro of the song, with its characteristic bell chime, can also be heard during the tunnel portions of the level "Outskirts".

This song is a favorite among fans, and thus it often finds its way into many fan-made halo-related videos.

Lyrics

Lyrics from Breaking Benjamin's MySpace page.

[Verse 1]
They fall in line,
One at a time.
Ready to play
(I can't see them anyway)
No time to lose
We've got to move
Steady your hand
(I am losing sight again)

[Bridge]
Fire your guns,
It's time to run,
Blow me away.
(I will stay, in the mess I made)
After the fall,
We'll shake it off,
Show me the way.

[Chorus]
Only the strongest will survive,
Lead me to Heaven when we die,
I am the shadow on the wall,
I'll be the one to save us all.

[Verse 2]
There's nothing left,
So save your breath,
Lying in wait.
(Caught inside this tidal wave)
Your cover's blown,
Nowhere to go,
Holding your fate.
(Loaded I will walk alone)

[Bridge]
Fire your guns,
It's time to run,
Blow me away.
(I will stay, in the mess I made)
After the fall,
We'll shake it off,
Show me the way.

[Chorus]
Only the strongest will survive,
Lead me to Heaven when we die,
I am the shadow on the wall,
I'll be the one to save us all.

Wanting it back
(Don't fight me, God!)

(Here I come! (Held out for about 2 seconds))

(Die! (Held out for about 5 seconds))

[Chorus]
Only the strongest will survive,
Lead me to Heaven when we die,
I am the shadow on the wall,
I'll be the one to save us all.

Save us all!

Trivia

  • Although it originally could be, this song can not be purchased on iTunes under any Halo soundtrack or any Breaking Benjamin album. The song can be downloaded for free on one of the following links.
  • Imaging that Bungie had an influence on the songs lyrics and naturally it's position in the game, parts of the lyrics could be a reference to events that are currently unfolding in the game, for example...

"They fall in line" - This could be a reference to the Brutes taking over the Elites previous Honour-Guard positions but also the follow up lyric "One at a time Ready to play" could be referring to the fact that the Brutes are currently withstanding the Elites rebellion against the rest of the Covenant and have to be "Ready" (Prepared) to "Play" (Fight).

"We’ve got to move" - This could be a reference to Spartan-117's and Cortana's haste to reach the Prophet of Truth and the Prophet of Mercy before they escape on the Forerunner Dreadnought which could lead to the demise of Earth.

"Only the strongest will survive" - This song as mentioned above begins playing when entering the room where a battle between the Hunters and Brutes are taking place, therefore meaning that truly, only the strongest will survive and win the battle. The follow up lyric "Lead me to heaven when we die" could be a reference to the Covenant's fanatical belief that when the die they will begin the "Great Journey".

"Holding your fate" - Finally, this lyric could be a reference to the fact that the Prophets are currently in possession of the Index which could truly hold the fate of humanity if they are not stopped.

"There's nothing left" - Meaning that almost every UNSC-occupied planets were destroyed by the Covenant, with the exception of Earth.

This is, however, all speculation and close analyse but if they are story linked lyrics then this may be some of them.
