The Sabre is a space fighter operated by the UNSC Defense Force.[1][2]
Description
The Sabre is a space based combat fighter which can be launched vertically from a ground-based launch platform, and uses a system of detachable multi-stage rockets to propel itself out of a planetary atmosphere.[1]
The fighter's armament includes twin machine guns, as well as missile pods. The Sabre also possesses Energy Shields.[1] The Sabre is capable of snap rolls and its targeting computer can identify enemy contacts from a distance, as well as show the distance to a target.[3]
History
The Sabre was the result of the "Sabre program", a top-secret UNSC project in which SPARTAN-B312 was involved at some point.[2] Reach had multiple Sabre fighters stored in launch facilities on the planet surface, used to reinforce the UNSC Navy, should they require assistance in battle. SPARTAN-B312 and Jorge-052 of Noble Team used one of these vehicles to assist the Epsilon Eridani Defense Fleet during the Fall of Reach in an operation known as "Operation Uppercut", in which multiple Sabres were deployed to defend the orbital station Anchor 9 over Reach.[1][2]
