Rocket Race is a VIP Gametype in Halo 3 on Xbox Live. The gametype has eight players divided into four separate teams, Red, Blue, Green, and Orange. It involves using a Mongoose to reach a destination to gain points. It is also loosely based on a Gametype called Race that was featured in Halo:Combat Evolved.
A Rocket Race match starts with four teams of two players -- Red, Blue, Green, and Orange. At the start of the match, one player from each team is randomly selected to be the VIP. The VIP rides on the back of the Mongoose, using their Rocket Launcher, while the other player acts as the driver.

The game has set point limit of 10 to reach, with each destination reached earning you or your VIP 1 point. At the start of the match, one VIP is randomly selected from the four teams, with the VIP acting as the gunner and the other teammate as the driver. Drivers of the teams then proceed to escort their VIPs to the different destinations on the map, while the VIPs focus on keeping the other teams away with their weaponry. One twist to the game however is that it is a Rocket Launcher only gametype with no damage enabled. This results in players and vehicles flying around the map when any rocket hits their vehicle. This type of game focuses on fun and often chaotic gameplay. However, sometimes the teammate that isn't the VIP will only run around trying to kill as many people as possible, making the game more enjoyable. Rocket Race is usually played on Sandtrap, Valhalla, sometimes Rat's Nest or slightly less commonly, Standoff.
The driver's objective is to escort their VIPs to the current objective. The VIP's objective is to use their Rocket Launcher to hinder other teams' progress. Damage is disabled, so vehicles cannot be destroyed and players cannot be killed. These settings result in fun and chaotic gameplay.

The game ends when a team gets 10 points. It is typically played on Sandtrap and Valhalla; sometimes, it is played on Rat's Nest or -- slightly less often -- Standoff.

Rocket Race is a Halo 3 gametype based on VIP. Rocket Race matches involve four teams of two invulnerable players, each using a Mongoose and a Rocket Launcher to reach a destination. The gametype was in development during June 2007[1] and has since been retired.[2]

Description

A Rocket Race match starts with four teams of two players -- Red, Blue, Green, and Orange. At the start of the match, one player from each team is randomly selected to be the VIP. The VIP rides on the back of the Mongoose, using their Rocket Launcher, while the other player acts as the driver.
