"Forward Unto Dawn" is a poem about humanity's shared destiny and ascendancy under the auspices of the Unified Earth Government.[1] The Charon-class frigate UNSC Forward Unto Dawn, which was largely responsible for bringing about the end of the Human-Covenant War, was named after a refrain from the poem.

Use at Corbulo Academy[edit]

The piece was inscribed over the beds in the bunk rooms of Corbulo Academy of Military Science. The line "From Earth, For Earth" was displayed on decorative banners across the campus, perhaps serving as the school's motto. The line "Honor, Valor, Allegiance" was referenced by CAMS' superintendent, General Black, in a speech to Hastati Squad after they failed a training exercise in 2526. The line "Today. Tomorrow. Forever" was featured on a mural at the school and was also referenced by Black in an advertisement for the academy.[1]

The poem[edit]

Through Knowledge, Victory. Through Unity, Peace.

Honor, Valor, Allegiance.
Today. Tomorrow. Forever.
Together We Rise. Together We Prevail.
Forward Unto Dawn.
From Earth, For Earth.
Honor, Valor, Allegiance, Excellence.
Today. Tomorrow. Forever.
Together We Rise. Together We Prevail.
Forward Unto Dawn.
From Earth, For Earth.
Honor, Valor, Allegiance, Excellence.
From Earth, For Earth.
Today. Tomorrow. Forever.
Together We Rise. Together We Prevail.
Forward Unto Dawn.[Note 1]

Notes[edit]

  1. ^ After the third refrain of "Forward Unto Dawn", the poem repeats with the line, "From Earth, For Earth." However, the rest of the poem is consistently out of frame, so it is unclear whether any more lines remain unseen.
