Escape intact as Covenant forces board your ship.

The Pillar of Autumn is the first level in the campaign of Halo: Combat Evolved and the Halo game series overall. The UNSC Pillar of Autumn, having escaped the destruction of Reach, has arrived near a strange object. Unfortunately, the Covenant, who are here as well, attack the ship. Master Chief Petty Officer SPARTAN John-117 is awakened from his cryo-sleep and makes his way to the bridge of the titular ship to be debriefed by Captain Jacob Keyes about their current situation. After the brief meeting, the Master Chief, with his AI companion Cortana, makes his way off the ship via a Bumblebee escape pod.

In Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, completing this level on any difficulty awards the player the "Pillar of Autumn" achievement and 25 Gamerscore. On Legendary, completing the level without using a health pack rewards the player the "Walk it Off" achievement for 25 Gamerscore. If the player completes the level on legendary difficulty without using an overshield, the player will earn the "Overshields are for Sissies" achievement for 10 Gamerscore.

In Halo: The Master Chief Collection, completing the level on any difficulty unlocks the "Pillar of Autumn" achievement worth 10 Gamerscore. "Walk it Off" and "Overshields are for Sissies" are unlockable with the same criteria and are each worth 10 Gamerscore. Beating the level's par time and par score will unlock the "Didn't Like This Ship Anyways" and "Pillar of Awesome" achievements, respectively, each worth 10 Gamerscore. Activating the Terminal found on the level will unlock the "Arrival" achievement worth 5 Gamerscore, while finding the Iron Skull will unlock the "Skulltaker Halo: CE: Iron" achievement, also worth 5 Gamerscore.

Arrival is the first level of Halo 3. It does not contain actual gameplay, consisting instead of a look inversion test on lower difficulties, and the game's opening cutscenes.

In Heroic and Legendary, the only point in playing this level is because players cannot get the Campaign Complete for the Heroic and Legendary Achievements without doing so.
