BiographyEdit

Tereem Wingate was a respected officer of the UNSC Marine Corps. In 2553, Wingate was attached to the Office of Naval Intelligence's 717th Xeno-Materials Exploitation Battalion as the battalion's military commander, charged with overseeing all aspects of the unit's combat and security. During the battalion's operations to search for Forerunner ancilla Intrepid Eye on the human Outer Colony of Gao in 2553, Wingate answered directly to Commander Murtag Nelson, though Admiral Margaret Parangosky of ONI had instructed Nelson to not question the major's decisions[2] and the only combat personnel Nelson had direct authority over were the battalion's attached Spartans.[1]

On July 4, 2553, after the battalion's forces at the village of Wendosa came under attack by the Keepers of the One Freedom, Wingate launched a ground support mission.[2] On July 5, 2553, Nelson met with Wingate in the Montero Vitality Center to discuss the major's tactical plans. Nelson attempted to convince Wingate to lend him three platoons to deploy in a mission to explore the entrance to Gao's subterranean Forerunner structure at the Well of Echoes, but Wingate refused as he believed the battalion's forces needed to be deployed against the Keepers of the One Freedom. The two were contacted by Captain Baldric Breit who revealed that Frederic-104 had retrieved Forerunner artifacts from the Montero Cave System shortly before Intrepid Eye jammed communications across the planet. Nelson surmised that Fred had captured the ancilla and brought Wingate along with him to order the battalion's remaining UH-144 Falcon to extract the Spartan and ancilla from Wendosa.[1] As the situation on Gao escalated and local forces turned against the UNSC, the battalion became desperate to leave the planet. Wingate planned an extraction plan with Admiral Tuwa's battle group in orbit to evacuate the battalion, but he contacted Olivia-G291 of Blue Team and instructed the Spartans to destroy Gao's Forerunner installation by detonating a HAVOK tactical nuclear weapon at the Well of Echoes before the UNSC left the planet.[3]

Personality and traitsEdit

Tereem Wingate is a no-nonsense officer of the UNSC Marine Corps. When Wingate held command of the 717th Xeno-Materials Exploitation Battalion, Admiral Margaret Parangosky told Commander Murtag Nelson to not interfere with the major's decisions, though the commander noted that Wingate had never remotely given him the opportunity to do so even if he had wanted to.[2] Nelson also noted that Wingate was his only subordinate in the battalion which he could not afford to peeve. Wingate reminded Nelson of a drill sergeant and the commander believed that Wingate was unsatisfied with his assignment to Nelson's battalion. Rather impatient, Wingate was unaccustomed to having the attention of his audience wander, though the major had a droning voice.[1]
