Miranda Halsey was born on [[2525#February|February 28, 2525]] on the planet [[Reach]] where her mother, [[Catherine Halsey|Doctor Catherine Elizabeth Halsey]], lived and worked. Though Miranda occupied Catherine's every non-working thought, there were many periods during her first year of life where her mother was absent. Barely a month after giving birth the doctor had left the [[Epsilon Eridani system]], bound for [[Lambda Serpentis system|Lambda Serpentis]] by March 30. The ship she had departed aboard, the {{UNSCShip|Atlas}}, was still patrolling that system by April 22. And even after she finally did return to Reach, it was not long before Miranda's mother found herself leaving once more for [[Sargasso]], this time in pursuit of [[Daisy-023|a runaway]] [[Spartan]] trainee. Another distraction pulled her away later that year and though as of September 11 she had only just returned, she left the planet again the very next morning and didn't come back until November 2. They attempted to retrieve the Index, and, although Keyes was successful, most of the Marines were killed or infected by the [[Flood]] that were infecting the installation. Realizing that John and Thel 'Vadam would never get there in time to stop Truth, Keyes decided to stall Truth herself. She crashed her Pelican into Truth's position, intending to stop the Array's firing and rescue Sergeant Johnson, who had been captured by Truth's forces. She exited her Pelican with an [[M90 shotgun|M90A shotgun]] and an [[M6G magnum]]. She was able to kill two Jiralhanae, and wounded (some fatally) several others but ultimately found herself outnumbered. Johnson demanded that she kill them both in order to halt Truth's plans. Like her father, Miranda Keyes was known for being one of the bravest officers in the UNSC.
