Malurok was settled centuries ago by [[Sangheili]] [[kaidon]]s and [[Yanme'e]] [[Yanme'e Queen|hive queen]]s of the [[Covenant]].<ref name="wf"/> Since then, these two groups have managed their own affairs though the empire did make use of the [[Sangheili colonies|colony]]. Many [[cycle]]s prior to [[2525]], [[Unggoy]] on Malurok attempted to secede from the Covenant. Later known as the [[Sixteenth Unggoy Disobedience]].<ref name="GEN"/> this rebellion was quashed in a matter of days by a strike force led by [[Ripa 'Moramee]], a Malurok native. 'Moramee demonstrated his ability once more when a [[Kig-Yar]] [[pirate]] prince named [[Krith]] seized some amount of power on the planet only to have his reign ended by him. Shortly following the defeat of Krith, 'Moramee attempted a coup against his own kaidon in the state of [[Moram]]. He failed to murder the leadership of the [[clan]] and for this he was tried and imprisoned at [[Weeping Shadows of Sorrow]].<ref name="GEN">''[[Halo Wars: Genesis]]''</ref> He was also due to be executed after one cycle had passed but he was spared this fate by being made an [[Arbiter]].<ref name="GEN"/>

From a cursory examination, Malurok's surface appears inhospitable. It is a harsh world featuring a number of barren atolls.<ref name="wf"/><ref name="evg10"/> Beneath the surface, however, are labyrinthine cities and elaborate halls that house millions in comfort.<ref name="wf"/> Large urban areas and [[keep]]s also exist on the surface.<ref name="GEN"/> A significant portion of Malurok is covered by water and a species of aquatic ray-like creatures brought by [[Sangheili]] to multiple worlds can be found swimming in it.<ref name="canon fodder"/>

Malurok is governed by independent Sangheili kaidons and Yanme'e hive queens.
