McKenzie was present when the {{UNSCShip|In Amber Clad}} took part in the [[Battle of the Quarantine Zone]]. They accompanied with Corporal Perez, [[Avery Junior Johnson|Sergeant Major Johnson]], and [[Commander (UNSC)|Commander]] [[Miranda Keyes]] to the [[Library]] to retrieve the [[Activation Index]]. After securing the Library facility, Johnson left [[Perez]] and McKenzie to guard the exit while he escorted Keyes to retrieve the Index. It is unknown what exactly happened to Perez and McKenzie during this endeavor. They may have been killed by the Flood, killed by the Arbiter, or captured/killed by the [[Brutes]], as when Johnson calls them for their status, they do not respond.
