But this seems unlikely, since when the Christians first claimed Jerusalem, they killed every living thing in the city, humans and animals alike, and they burned the Jews, who had barricaded themselves inside their Synagogue. When Saladin reclaimed the city, instead of killing all the Christians as the Christians had feared, he spared all Christian lives, and he didn't desecrate the Christian relics (like the Christians had done when they first invaded Jerusalem). Saladin then summoned the Jews and permitted them to resettle in the city.
