Perhaps he recorded this statement before the Domain was destroyed, because he wanted to defend his position, his sin. He was also conscious that his wife would prepare the Reclamation. After re-reading it, I can totally see his speech at this point, don't you think so? But eventually, he wouldn't change his mind since the Domain was destroyed.
