The energy stave mostly serves a ceremonial purpose as opposed to a combat one; the stave has been used as an actual offensive weapon in rare cases only. The Honor Guard Sangheili mostly use [[Type-25 Directed Energy Rifle|Plasma Rifles]], [[Type-1 Energy Weapon/Sword|Energy Swords]], and [[Type-51 Carbine|Covenant Carbines]] in real combat. However, they were used by [[Jiralhanae]] to subdue any [[Unggoy]] and [[Kig-yar]] that came too close to the [[Council Chamber]] during one of the [[Prophet of Truth|High Prophet of Truth]]'s sermons regarding the discovery of the [[Activation Index|"Sacred Icon"]].<ref name="grave"/>
