Spark explained that all of the smaller crystals used in Forerunner technology were cut from the Source Crystal also known as the Mother Crystal, transported to manufacturing facilities all across the ecumene and then cut into smaller flakes for use in everything from the smallest craft to the largest. Spark wasn't aware of where the Mother Crystal would be stored and stated that it was one of the best kept secrets in the ecumene. Only the cutters knew and they would've rather died than reveal its location. The crystals were so dangerous that Spark could not allow them to be salvaged nor could the humans touch them.
