==Service history==

On [[2552#August|August 12, 2552]] during the [[Battle at Szurdok Ridge]], ''Grafton'' provided fire support for [[UNSC Army]] forces engaging in combat in the [[Viery Territory]], accompanied by the frigate {{UNSCShip|Saratoga}}. During the battle, ''Grafton'' was authorized to utilize its [[Magnetic Accelerator Cannon]] to destroy a [[Covenant]] installation codenamed "[[Spire One]]".{{Ref/Reuse|HRToTS}} ''Grafton'' succeeded in destroying the installation; however, with the dissipation of the spire's projected electromagnetic cloaking field, the Covenant [[Covenant supercarrier|supercarrier]] ''[[Long Night of Solace]]'' was revealed, hovering over the battle area. With its cloaking shield gone, the supercarrier opened fire on ''Grafton'' with its ventral [[energy projector]], destroying the frigate with a single shot.{{Ref/Reuse|HRToTS}}

FFG-318 may carry on the lineage of [[Wikipedia:HMS Grafton|HMS ''Grafton'']] of the Royal Navy or [[Wikipedia:USS Grafton|USS ''Grafton'']] of the United States Navy; the former is more likely as the nine ships named ''Grafton'' in British service have exclusively been fighting ships, such as cruisers, destroyers, and frigates, whereas those in American service have been support vessels. The frigate may also be named in honor of the [[Australia]]n city of [[Wikipedia:Grafton, New South Wales|Grafton, New South Wales]].
