Somewhere in early [[2549]],{{Ref/NoteReuse|date}} while ''The Heart of Midlothian'' was on its way to [[Algolis]], the technician diagnosed [[Orbital Drop Shock Trooper|ODST]] [[Sergeant]] [[Michael Baird]] with [[cancer]]. About twenty-three hours after Baird was put to sleep for surgery, the destroyer arrived at the [[Algol system]], where it was boarded by a [[Covenant Empire|Covenant]] [[Boarding (attack)|boarding party]].
