During the [[Second Battle of Requiem]], Smith and Warbird Company were stationed at the location known as "[[The Refuge (Requiem location)|the Refuge]]."  They were attacked by Covenant forces led by a group of Elites called the [[Silent Blade]].  During the battle Smith and the others were trapped behind an energy shield, preventing reinforcements from reaching them.
