::There's always that old element of compartmentalisation - why do we think the Gravemind knows for sure what happened to its (former?) species? It was trapped in stasis for millions of years, and that's plenty of time for the Precursor survivors to have begun spinning new webs, separate but perhaps not unrelated to those of the Flood. Given how big a deal was made of them in the Forerunner Trilogy, I fully expect them to reappear at some point, looking for a little payback against what is left of those who wiped them out.
