+If the book mentions the title 2nd Lieutenant, then that could mean he is really a LTJG, but it could also mean he is an Ensign. It all depends on whether or not the authors accidentally confused the rank system for the Navy with another branch, i.e. they thought he was in the UNSC Air Force, so referred to him as a 2nd Lt.
