The island is located off the coast of Africa about 175 km south of [[New Mombasa]], which was the [[Covenant]]'s main incursion point in their [[Battle of Earth|initial attack]] on Earth in [[2552]].

As part of the [[East African Protectorate]]'s attempts at re-nationalization in the late 25th century, [[Wind Power Station 7]] was constructed at the Zanzibar coast next to an ancient fortress. However, the effort was not particularly successful and as a result, station was later decommissioned.
