During the [[Second Battle of New Mombasa]], Czernek was most likely a First or [[Second Lieutenant]]. He and his unit began to run low on ammo while fighting the [[Covenant]]. He continued fighting with the [[M41 LAAG]] on the back of an over turned [[Warthog]] when [[John-117]] arrived. He is probably the [[Marine]] seen on a damaged Warthog several meters from the Hunter from the beginning, since he described himself being in that location when he was interviewed in the [[Museum of Humanity]] for a documentary. Czernek lost his right leg during his tour of duty that included the [[Second Battle of New Mombasa]]. There is now (what appears to be) a metallic prosthetic leg in place.
