There are two other classifications for soldiers,MIA(Missing In Action)
WIA(Wounded In Action).  These 3 classes for nonactive soldiers were used as early as WWII,created by the allied nations to hopefully make it easier on saying what happened to the Wounded,Missing,or Dead soldiers.
