'''Diego Garcia''' is a small tropical island in the Indian Ocean of [[Earth]], about 1,000 miles south of the southern India coast. It has been a military base since the mid 1900`s. In 1971 RAF Gan was built there. As of sometimeduring the [[19th century]] it was still a [[British]] [[Indian Ocean]] [[Territory]]and still was during the [[21st Century]] . The [[UNSC]] base on the island launched the first counterattacks against the [[Covenant]] when they invaded [[New Mombasa]] in Kenya, Africa in [[2552]] during [[The First Battle of Earth]]. Among the units to respond was the [[405th]] UNSC Marine Division. During the [[Second Battle of Earth]], a computer screen showed a Covenant capital ship within what is probably firing range of the island. Its fate after the battle is unknown.
