 During their investigations on Installation 04, the Covenant encountered a [[Flood containment facility]] and unknowingly released the dormant Flood; they quickly, but only partially, reestablished containment. Soon, a squad of [[UNSC Marine Corps|Marines]] led by [[Captain (Navy)|Captain]] [[Jacob Keyes]] accidentally broke quarantine again, expecting to find a large Covenant weapons cache. The human-waged guerrilla war quickly turned into a massive four-way battle between [[UNSC]] forces, the Covenant, [[Sentinel]]s led by [[343 Guilty Spark]], and the Flood.
