The NOVA Bomb explosion severely damaged three-quarters of the fleet that was there, totaling over 300 ships. Eighteen Destroyers, two Cruisers, one Carrier and the Flagship Incorruptible escaped the NOVA Bomb explosion due to a Slipspace jump en masse just seconds prior to the explosion. Other ships arrived to reinforce the Incorriptible arrived from Joyous Exultation, suggesting that they escaped the bomb's detonation as a result of being positioned on the opposite side of the planet. The novel describes the explosion as though "a small star erupted between Joyous Exultation and its moon."

This event may have actually been extremely unfortunate for the humans, as the Sangheili, led by Imperial Admiral Xytan 'Jar Wattinree, could have shattered the Jiralhanae fleet, thus effectively destroying the Covenant. This could have immediately turned the tide of the war for both the UNSC and the Covenant Separatists. However, the Imperial Commander there, along with all of the stationed Elites, still believed in the Covenant's lies, and would have attacked the humans at Earth, possibly declaring the Arbiter and Rtas 'Vadum heretics in the process.
Exactly what effect this had on later events is unknown. If the NOVA hadn't detonated and the fleet had survived, the Elites would certainly have had a larger attack force, and been better able to crush the Brute defences during the Battle of Installation 00. However, the crippling of the Elite forces by the Brutes during the Schism was one of the reasons why the Elites allied with humanity, seeing them as the only viable allies. In addition, Imperial Admiral 'Wattinree seems to have shown no reconsideration of the humans status as heretics, even after rejecting the Prophets, sending a fleet to Onyx to claim it for the Elites - if he had survived, especially given the amount of reverence given to someone of his stature, it is unknown whether he would have allied with the Arbiter and humanity.
