"Superheating exotic nuclear isomers is pure folly, but it was done with the best of intentions. Advanced Plasma Pistol with overcharged shots that create an unstable gravimetric vortex at point of impact, pulling in nearby objects then exploding."
— In-game description[3]

The Void's Tear is a special Type-54D Directed Energy Pistol.[2]

OverviewEdit

Design detailsEdit

The Void's Tear is a named variant of the T-54D DEP, upgraded to fire overcharged shots that spawn an unstable gravimetric vortex at the point of impact, which pulls in nearby objects and then explodes. Its normal shots also have a knockback effect on weapons and other small objects upon hitting them. It was created through superheated exotic nuclear isomers. It uses the T-54D's model but with a different coloration, mainly using a white and red color scheme on the main body of the weapon.[3]

Service historyEdit

In late 2558, the Void's Tear was integrated into the UNSC Infinity's War Games simulations for use by Spartan-IVs.[2]

GameplayEdit

Halo 5: GuardiansEdit

The Void's Tear, a Level 4 Rare Power Weapon REQ, is the advanced variant of the Plasma Pistol. It operates exactly identically to the Plasma Pistol except that its overcharged shots conjure an unstable gravimetric vortex upon impact that has a radius of 8.05 meters and pulls in nearby objects before exploding for further damage. The EMP effect and vehicular stopping power of the Void's Tear are also stronger compared to the Plasma Pistol, making it capable of stopping a full-speed Rally Warthog dead in its tracks and even launching light vehicles into the air. On the other hand, getting trapped in the gravimetric vortex can be fatal, especially as attempting to use grenades will only kill the player instead. The Void's Tear's normal shots do more damage than the normal Plasma Pistol but less than those from the Spitfire, killing a full shield, full health Spartan in seven shots. Overall, the Void's Tear is an effective weapon against infantry and air vehicles, especially bosses in air vehicles. It has the same overall range as a normal Plasma Pistol: 30.50 m (100.07 ft) hipfired and 91.09 m (298.85 ft) with Smart-Link.[4]

In Warzone simulations, Unggoy Bodyguards are seen with the Void's Tear, making them the most dangerous of the Unggoy species (excluding the Pnap-pattern Goblin). When fighting Unggoy Bodyguards with a vehicle, it is highly recommended having the Wheelman Armor Mod activated to be able to more quickly recover from the EMPs inflicted by their weapons or, failing that, quickly kill the Unggoy Bodyguards before they get a chance to damage the player.

Changes from the Type-54D Directed Energy PistolEdit

  • Fires overcharged shots that create an unstable gravimetric vortex upon impact, pulling in nearby objects and then exploding.
  • Normal shots do slightly more damage, killing a full shield, full health Spartan in 7 shots.
  • Normal shots also exhibit knockback behavior.
  • Increased battery capacity: normal shots deplete 0.5% of the battery, while charged shots deplete 7.5%.
  • Creates a black hole-like cloud when charged up.
  • Reticle is bloomed out even more.
