The UNSC Aegis Fate, hull classification symbol FFG-307, is a Charon-class light frigate in the UNSC Navy.[2]

Operational history

Fall of Reach

Main article: Fall of Reach

Aegis Fate was present during the Fall of Reach in the summer of 2552 as part of the Epsilon Eridani Fleet. It was offered as a support element for Dragon X-ray, though the operator refused, fearing that its firepower could cause collateral damage. It was one of the few warships to escape the planet as the Covenant glassed it from orbit.[3][4]

After Reach

Main article: Sandtrap

After escaping Reach, the Aegis Fate was deployed to an abandoned Jiralhanae excavation site on an unknown world. It deployed at least one Albatross to the surface, though it crashed for reasons unknown.[2]

Trivia

  • The Aegis Fate is prominently featured in the northeastern[5] patch of unclouded sky on the Halo 3 multiplayer map Sandtrap.
  • Aegis was name of the goddess Athena's armor in Greek mythology. It was originally Zeus', which he made from the hide of a goat who raised him. The word Aegis is often used in relevance to protection, so "Aegis Fate" could mean "Protective Fate," or "Doomed to Protect."[citation needed]
  • Prior to Halo 3's release, the Aegis Fate was thought to be a UNSC battlecruiser, as descriptions found in the Halo 3 Beta described it as such.[6]
  • In the now-cancelled game Halo Online, the Aegis Fate was seen hovering high above the multiplayer map Reactor.

Note

  1. ^ The Aegis Fate is part of the Seventh Fleet due to the "7" star emblem adorning its ventral prow. This was established with the UNSC Forward Unto Dawn entry in the Halo: The Essential Visual Guide.
