The Tarantula Nebula, known to the Forerunners as the Spider, is a region in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way.[1] It is a huge, filamentary nebula home to numerous stars that had only recently been born. The Forerunners believed that the Flood originated from the Tarantula Nebula.[2] The Tarantula Nebula was home to a planetary system with four orbiting bodies, near the center of the nebula. Forerunners that helped massacre the Precursors lived in exile on the system's innermost planet,[3] called Sedaaro. In 1,100,000 BCE, a Forerunner Theoretical known as Boundless attempted to research a star in the Tarantula Nebula. Though she was soon forbidden from further researching this star by the Warrior rate, she continued to do so until she was prosecuted.[4] Years later, the Librarian led an expedition to the Tarantula Nebula to study the origins of the Flood. During the expedition, she discovered the descendants of prehistoric Forerunners that chose to live in exile in the nebula.[5]
