If you tap the trigger, youll get an almost continous beam and your Sentinel Beam will never overheat.--User:JohnSpartan117 [1] 02:34, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

Sentinal Beam PropertiesEdit

The Sentinal Beam is capable of pushing a rather high-mass object such as a Warthog or Mongoose with relative ease, even more so when multiple beams are used. As stated in the article, and based on the supposition that Covenant technology relies heavily on the Forerunners, the main ammunition of the weapon is plasma. To push a few tons of vehicle this plasma would have to be a very highly dense gas. A continuous stream of high-energy, high-density plasma would require a very long and very strong magentic "tube" to contain and direct. Generation of such a tube is entirely possible with the Forerunner's technological superiority. It could also be possible that such an apparently high-density plasma stream would require the use of a specialized elemental isotope or manufactured gas, explaining why the Beam would run out of ammunition: the Sentinal that the weapon is attatched to possesses the manufacturing or filtering plant necessary to arm the device, and when it is removed the beam no longer has an infinite ammunition supply.

PictureEdit

Surely we can get a better picture. Hunter-113 14:10, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Agreed--Swearingmonk 18:26, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Indeed, I'll go look for one now.

Update: Wow. I couldn't find anything... is the SB really that unpopular? --Reborn Knuxchao My Sociality My Failures 19:51, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm digging the one we have now, it looks great. Do you think we should put a side-by-side comparison of the version from Halo 2 and Halo 3? Metaridley 14:27, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

that picture of blemo useing the awsome weapon one handed was cool looking, it looked like it was part of his arm.

Update: I found several pretty darn good pictures, and they're already posted. So, no more worries. Xamikaze330 15:26, 29 August 2011 (EDT)Xamikaze330

Halo Encyclopedia: The Definitive Guide to the Halo Universe nicknames the Sentinel Beam as "Phaser"Edit

As the above section title says, the Halo Encyclopedia (2009 edition) has nicknamed the Sentinel Beam as the "Phaser", "Laser Gun", and also "Ray Gun", among many others such names. Though I might add that calling it the "Laser Gun" seems inappropriate, as laser beams are typically red or green, like in Star Wars, and of course, Halo, and not to mention the purple-colored Pulse Laser Turrets the Covenant uses on their interstellar warships, whereas the Sentinel Beam has a reddish-orange-colored beam. And "Ray Gun" just seems pretty generic, but certainly applicable. Xamikaze330 15:29, 29 August 2011 (EDT)Xamikaze330

The laser beam itself is invisible - what we see is the air directly in its path being superheated to a plasma. The colour of that plasma would depend on several things - the lasing medium (what it's travelling through) and the frequency of the beam itself. If I recall correctly, red shifting is higher frequency while blue shifting is lower frequency - which is why the Brute Plasma Rifle is more powerful than the regular Elite version. It's not unique to lasers, either - anything that superheats the air does that. Again, if I'm wrong about the frequency thing, someone please correct me. -- Specops306 Autocrat Qur'a 'Morhek 00:44, 30 August 2011 (EDT)

Sentinel Minor & MajorEdit

I modified the model info with new info. The sentinel beam also has the sentinel major version, so I updated the model info. -17/06/2007

Energy Beam ammoEdit

I am removing the note in the trivia section about ammo starting preset at 89 percent, as I have played Halo 2 campain many times, and if you destroy a Sentinel before it has a chance to fire, you can pick up it's beam weapon with 100 percent energy.

Multiplayer RecommendationsEdit

hiya. im new. just tryin' to help clean things up with all this post release nonsense muckin' things up. 75.31.52.100

CorrectionEdit

Someone said there was no beams on any Halo 3 Multiplayer map. But you can get it on Foundry.

A little late maybe, but the Sentinel Beam starts on no multiplayer map. It can, however, be added to a number of maps for custom games. Arcdash 00:08, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

More Powerful?Edit

On legendary a setinel will kill you with a shot lasting less than a second. But you can take a shot from Spark and be fine, so why is Guilty Spark's beam more powerful?

OriginsEdit

Hello. I am a guest and a major sci-fi fan; especially Halo series. I was wondering: The forerunners are supposedly human and we developed laser tech on our own as well as the idea of it as a weapon, right? So what if the Spartan Laser is similar to a forerunner predecessors to the sentinel beam? Could the sentinel beam use Phaser tech like the ones in Star Trek? Star Trek Phasers look similar and come in red-orange (think 343), light blue (nearly identical in color to sentinel major) and orange (also similar to Halo).

Because Halo is a different universe then Star Trek, they will probably not use the same ammunition. The Spartan Laser could indeed be a predecessor to the Sentinel Beam but nobody knows. SQ G T3rr0R 17:03, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

NOT HEADSHOT CAPABLEEdit

It's because of many things. 1. Headshots are always one-shot kills to unshielded opponent.

2. The Sentinel Beam is an "automatic" weapon. No automatic weapons are headshot-capable for the above reason. Since automatic weapons have a high enough rate of fire, it would be heck easy to get a headshot(at close range at least), even if you miss the first shot. Proof? The Battle Rifle. On your fourth burst that hits the target, the first and sometimes second bullet deplete the shielding, and the last one kills the target. More proof? The Carbine. Supposedly does very low health damage. Headshots are one-shot kills.

3. Then again, the beam is not actually a beam, or at least isn't what you think it is. It's plenty of individual projectiles with a very long contrail that's scripted to disappear almost instantly. Proof again? Turn while firing the spartan laser, or better yet, the sentinel beam itself. These projectiles have such a low interval that you won't even know they're different projectiles. This, combined with the other two, makes you a sort of mortal god when you wield this.

I just ran some tests, no, it is not headshot-capable. PX173 13:28, January 5, 2010 (UTC)

Use of Sentinel Beam in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary?Edit

Does anyone if the remake of Halo 1 allows for players to use the Sentinel Beam from destroyed Sentinels? I know that in the original Halo 1 it generally is impossible without modding the game, but I was wondering that since it seems that multiplayer has the Assassination sequence, that maybe 343i had changed the game code a little bit to allow the use of other weapons and things like that. Is there any data available on this? Xamikaze330 14:04, 17 September 2011 (EDT)Xamikaze330

Campaign uses HCE with a graphics mod; multiplayer uses Reach. So, no.— subtank 14:11, 17 September 2011 (EDT)
That's a bummer. Kinda hoping we could use it in Campaign, or maybe even Multiplayer. Oh well. Xamikaze330 18:57, 17 September 2011 (EDT)Xamikaze330

TermsEdit

Spartan331, if you see this, where did you glean the term 'Sentinel Aggressor?'—This unsigned comment was made by Bruce2401 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Red sentinel beamEdit

Some one can try it, like i did:

Well, this supposed sentinel beam that is red can be "obtained" by destroying the sentinels that are next to the cliff out side the control room, but it will only be red if it falls to the cliff, why? because its caused by the lighting.

If you jump off the cillf you will see that your armor adquires a redish tone.

When i pick it up (its very hard to get one of the beams to not fall, you have to stick a sentinel with a grenade to push it) it is silver on the ground already, not red.

So actually there is not red sentinel beam. Siul S-249 22:27, 13 October 2011 (EDT)

MechanicsEdit

On the Directed energy weapon page, it states the sentinel beam is a plasma weapon. On the particle beam page, it states it's a ionized particle beam.

Which is it? If there isn't a direct statement regarding the mechanics of the weapon, all references to one or the other should be removed, and at most, any speculatory information should be limited to this page and have a reasonable basis to warrant its inclusion. signxb.jpg 21:03, 6 November 2012 (EST)

Addendum: I'm not in a high enough position to make calls on what speculation is or is not appropriate for the page, but IMO, something like the "Sentinal Beam Properties" section at the top of this page would be detailed enough to include, provided the information is checked to be accurate. signxb.jpg 21:06, 6 November 2012 (EST)\
Additionally; I notice the infobox for the article lists it as a particle beam weapon. However, assuming that is true, how was the Focus rifle reverse engineered from this? Furthermore, I see no citation for that statement anywhere, so unless one can be provided, all references to the alleged reverse engineering should be removed or have the citation tag added. signxb.jpg 21:15, 6 November 2012 (EST)

Sentinel Beam in Halo 4Edit

Although Aggressor Sentinels are encountered on the level Requiem and on Reclaimer, I'm going to assume that when they are destroyed (only by Covenant remnant forces), they do not leave behind any Sentinel Beam weapons lying around. If this assumption is wrong, please let me know, or else don't; I'll find out either way. --Xamikaze330 (talk|contribs) 21:13, 11 November 2012 (EST)Xamikaze330
