I think we might have a "united rebel front" kind of confusion going on here. I think the reference to a "Hellespont" may have been that the cranky old man confused "Hellespont" and "Troy" and then freaked out when the receptionist corrected him, as part of Herzog's scheme to get people investigating the matter so they don't have to talk to the man any more than necessary.
