The Covenant[edit]
According to the new Waypoint entry on the Covenant, the "control and usage of hard light" was one of the Forerunner technologies they reverse-engineered. This, of course, goes against the Minister of Discovery's statement in Wages of Sin. I'm not sure how we should approach this—as an outright conflict, or making a compromise saying the Covenant could use hard light to a limited extent (the holo-drones could be an example) but nowhere near the level of the Forerunners. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 00:56, 12 November 2014 (EST)
- The aforementioned example of the holo-drones probably shows understanding of using hardlight, but then, we haven't seen those used by anyone else, and the Heretic Leader did have a lot of contact with 343 Guilty Spark, who already seems to have let him use some Forerunner tech in the form of the Sentinels. I'd be very disappointed if the energy sword got retconned to be hardlight. Other than that, I can't think of a single instance of the Covenant using hard light. - High Charity only had gravity bridges, as they're called in Broken Circle. The energy sword's nature doesn't seem at risk of being retconned, as every technical source so far still identifies it as a plasma weapon, including the new Waypoint entry. The only mention of it being hardlight was an offhand comment by one of the gameplay designers IIRC. While it's possible the holodrones are Forerunner tech, the Covenant were clearly aware of them (including their name) and didn't seem to be particularly humbled or impressed by them. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 02:32, 12 November 2014 (EST)
- A reasonable compromise would be that the Covenant managed to reverse-engineer the technology but never perfected it. After all, the Forerunners were capable of making hard light indistinguishable from their signature metal.
I'll bring this upEDIT: I've brought this up on Waypoint along with a few timeline gripes; maybe they'll change the articles as the did with the Ark entry. --Our vengeance is at hand.
