Untitled[edit]

I've also seen in that trailer a sort of personalised bubble shield. The player uses it to deflect a Ghost that was boosting at him. I dunno if the Ghost exploded afterwards because of it, or because of some outside force (eg: explosive)

This page needs to be renamned to "loadouts", since the newest MP trailer has confirmed that Armour Abilities has been renamned to loadouts. lol

Not quite true, you select your loadout at the beginning of the game (and each time you die) and the armour ability is part of the loadout. If we renamed this loadouts we'd have to rename weapons loadouts as well.82.45.116.95 16:31, May 2, 2010 (UTC)

Discriptions[edit]

Where did we get the quote's/discription's for the armor abillties? Noname The HeroHero Talk Do I take life or give it? Who is victim, and who is foe 21:47, March 28, 2010 (UTC)

If you go to bungie.net and go to the halo reach project page, select ordnance on the left and it is in a section called Armour Abilities. each quote is from the description next to each type of ability. Hillsy1993 15:53, March 29, 2010 (UTC)

Is that all[edit]

Are these all of the armor abilities or are there more to come?—This unsigned comment was made by 24.184.119.203 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

I'm assuming these are for the Beta and perhaps more will be revealed in the final game release.- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 22:34, April 10, 2010 (UTC)
Umm in the beta the armor lock and active camo are rectangles located under the players power pack sprint has none and jetpack is big ugly box(obviously) this is all aesthetic on the character look for yourselves.
There are two new abilities (besides Drop Shield) that were recently revealed here towards the bottom of the Firefight features list. We know nothing about them except that they'll be featured in Firefight and useable by Spartans. They are listed as [REDACTED]. FatalSnipe117 21:54, June 19, 2010 (UTC)
Now there is (at least) one left to be revealed. the hologram was just revealed here. Brace yourselves for another armor ability sometime within the next few weeks. FatalSnipe117 18:10, July 7, 2010 (UTC)

Jetpacks[edit]

In the Halo: Reach Multiplayer Trailer, I noticed that only the Spartans can use the Jetpacks, can Elites use jetpacks like in Halo 2? Registered Contributor ® 01:12, April 11, 2010 (UTC)

Umm, yea. I was just on Bungie.Net, and some guy said that it showed an Elite's loadout screen and it said Jet Pack. I have doubts though, cause how did he know it twas an Elite.BriNg iN DeR FLAmeS?! 01:12, April 18, 2010 (UTC)

yes there will be an elite jetpack. In an interview with GTTV you can see an elite using one in the background and when they show the loadouts of elites. One option has a jetpack.

Campaign?[edit]

I know it could be a far shot, but I hope that they can find some way to work Armor Abilities into Campaign—This unsigned comment was made by 98.193.64.52 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Bungie already confirmed that Armor Abilities will be featured in the Campaign in one of their weekly updates.- Sketchist 02:51, May 19, 2010 (UTC)

Holograph Armor Ability[edit]

I may have missed something, but isn't all the information concerning the Holograph armor ability speculative? All we can actually state is that it creates a holographic copy of the player, it is capable of movement (though if it is user controlled or simply takes a walk is unknown), and that when it dies it flickers. But the video doesn't actually confirm we have control over it in anyway or how damage is dealt to it. We saw a headshot from a sniper rifle, which doesn't really say much. It could easily disappear from one shot, have half health, etc. So unless there is information elsewhere, all the information in that section is speculation and should be removed until information arises stating otherwise. XRoadToDawnX 18:39, July 7, 2010 (UTC)

My bad. I added those when I redirected a duplicate article to this article.- Sketchist 18:42, July 7, 2010 (UTC)
Anyone who has the software to do so should get some kind of picture of the holograph. The best spot is probably where it gets hit by the sniper, that will show that it is a hologram, not a player. FatalSnipe117 19:46, July 7, 2010 (UTC)
Holograph or Hologram? The article states Hologram, but everyone, as well as other articles, are referring to it as Holograph. This puzzles me. I humbly request permission to start changing this mistake. Kurt - O51 18:27, July 9, 2010 (UTC)
That could be a halo 2 holo drone, no?. User:Alex Gonzalez 14:15, July 14, 2010 (UTC)
Its kinda like a holo-drone except it doesn't fire, although I think it may have shields. - FatalSnipe117 05:01, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
Maybe this is not a holo drone, but it could be great to have him back. Alex Gonzalez 18:33, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
You point at something, activate the ablility, and it runs other to where you pointed and stops, if you point downwards it doesn't move, and it flickers away after 10 seconds or after taking a certain amount of damage (don't know how much damage though), the time it lasts and the damage it takes might be able to be changed in custom games settings, (you can make it so u don't drop a flag/skull/bomb when using a ability) Agow95 10:23, July 27, 2010 (UTC)

Drop Shield Quote[edit]

The quote that Lars Bakken gave in his interview with Waypoint about the drop shield; "Think of it as a proto-bubble shield" would go nicely above the drop shield section. Permission to add it? --Turn out the Lights, 07:13, July 27, 2010 (UTC)

Evade + Spartans[edit]

Just wanted to ask about the recent frame of the Forgeworld Vidoc showing a spartan character having his armour ability as evade. Was this a glitch, and error, a real change that has not been talked about by bungie or something that has been confirmed? Rimnek 015 02:44, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

I believe that now all characters can use all armor abilities (Elites using armor lock, Spartans using evade, ETC...) but don't quote me on that. Que Sera, Sera 02:55, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

Elites[edit]

I know spartans can now use evade but i dont think elites can use sprint. since they already move faster anyway. FATGUNN 03:04, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure Sangheili (Elites) can sprint with their armor.Death will follow you... 20:40, August 11, 2010 (UTC)

Drop Shield?[edit]

Is there any indication whether someone can deactivate the drop shield before the times up. I am talking about the person who activated it in the first place.FATGUNN 00:31, August 6, 2010 (UTC)

A.I + Armour Abilities[edit]

Hey all, I was just at the Control Point Defense in Toronto on Sept 4th and I got to play a game of firefight. At one point I was fighting a brute captain, who several times used armour lock against me. I just wanted to point out the it seems that not only the Spartans and Elites will be able to use the Armour Ability option, but that the Brutes will as well. I wonder if the Brute Chieftans will have a uniquie armour ability, like an invincibility or something that you can only use if you successfully kill one in campaign or something. Any thoughts? Rimnek 015 06:03, September 5, 2010 (UTC)

I had a skirmisher use a hologram on me. It fooled me too.--Blahmarrow 19:13, 7 November 2010 (EST)

New armor lock glitch?[edit]

I was playing firefight with a friend when I decided to bother him by standing on him. Eventually a Brute with a Plasma Launcher shot at me and I used armor lock. That resulted in my friend flying pretty far across the map, along with me. Is this something worth noting on this site, I mean as a glitch?--Blahmarrow 19:17, 7 November 2010 (EST)

Armor lock creates a localized gravitation effect, forcing you towards the ground. If your friend was below you, then you being pushed to the ground pushes your friend(and you) quite some distance. A glitch? yes. Notable? debatable. DatrDeletr 00:44, 15 November 2010 (EST)

Are armor abilities canon?[edit]

Normally the answer to this would automatically be yes. But we already know that one isn't (Sprint), so that means we have less faith in others. I mean, Armor Lock can protect you from a frickin orbital strike (Target Locator)! And as we see throughout the series, all holograms need to be on a holo-projecter to operate, yet Hologram has a hologram out of nothing. And how is it physically possible to smack the ground and make a near invincible shield around you (Drop Shield). I mean maybe if you had a big device, but this comes out of your frickin hands! I know a lot about canon because I have played all the games and read all the books. And why would moving make Active Camouflage weaker?! And with the Jet Pack, I think it's possible but why only like 2 inches. I think the Jet Pack and Active Camouflage are the only possible ones and are weak because they were just toned down for the sake of gameplay. I think you should agree with me!!!!! Vegerot (talk) 20:26, 14 November 2010 (EST)!!!!!!

I fail to see how any armor abilities are non-canon. Please read the manual, it includes a section on armor abilities. "I think we should all not agree with you!!!!!" Btw, act more mature and your point is easier to prove. DatrDeletr 00:44, 15 November 2010 (EST)

I have read the manuel. The manuel really doesn't give a lot of info about that kind of stuff. And read my post more carefully. If you have read the books, then you know that you can run in MJOLNIR Mark V. So in the manuel when it says that there are neural inhibitors that makes it impossible to run, we know that isn't true, which would make that ability extremely redundant, so that probably doesn't exist. If we know that one of them doesn't exist, then we have less (fuck, can't think of the word!!) "faith" in the other Abilities. If you read what I wrote in the post above, then you would see that the other abilities are also unrealistic (even in a universe where you can travel a light year in a day). If you are too lazy to read about why they are unrealistic then I will tell you AGAIN. " I mean, Armor Lock can protect you from a frickin orbital strike (Target Locator)! And as we see throughout the series, all holograms need to be on a holo-projecter to operate, yet Hologram has a hologram out of nothing. And how is it physically possible to smack the ground and make a near invincible shield around you (Drop Shield). I mean maybe if you had a big device, but this comes out of your frickin hands!"... "And why would moving make Active Camouflage weaker?! And with the Jet Pack, I think it's possible but why only like 2 inches." Vegerot (talk) 21:13, 15 November 2010 (EST)!!!!

You're right that the abilities were created purely for the sake of gameplay. However, since Bungie went through the trouble of creating canon explanations for them, they're all canon until someone says otherwise. Even though the effects of some abilities such as Drop Shield may be slightly unrealistic in the game, that's because it's a game. If they made a book where the abilities showed up, some of them (such as Drop Shield having no visible emitter) may be more realistic. They've taken liberties with gameplay before. Sure, you can run in Mark V. My guess is that the "canon" version of the Sprint plug actually makes the user run a lot faster than in the game, but it's the way it is because you'd be running so fast it wouldn't work in the game. Plus, no one said that the Mark V had no safeties. That was the case with the Mark IV - so it's possible they fixed it in the later models. As for the jetpack, that's gameplay limitations again. The piece of equipment is canon, but its gameplay mechanics, not so much. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 02:34, 16 November 2010 (EST)
O.K. I hear what you're saying. And I know that MJOLNIR has safeties. But in the games those safeties are UNBELIEVABLY exaggerated. A SPARTAN-II (not sure about SPARTAN-III) can run, and still be able to aim his/her weapon pretty well. But hopefully, in one of the new books that are coming out will explain and help fix the canon issues with the abilities! Vegerot (talk) 17:39, 16 November 2010 (EST)!!!!
My opinion on this issue is that most armour abilities are simply gameplay enhancements; Sprint and Evade are natural abilities to SPARTANs and Elites without the need of any additional utility, that is to say, not canon. We've seen Armour Lock in action before; John-117 activated his armour lock to survive the atmospheric re-entry, whereas Jorge and Six used Armour Lock to avoid injuries as they crashed towards the Spire. Armour Lock, in canon in my opinion, does not provide elaborated protection against heavy weapons/explosives as featured in the game; it overcharges the shielding system akin to an overshield for a short period, but not to the extent of deflecting a rocket, destroying vehicles or removing a plasma grenade like the game portrays. If one needs reference, refer to use of the Bubble Shield concept in the Starry Night trailer. Drop Shield is essentially the Bubble Shield, but far more realistic version as it takes in actual damage and eventually collapse after surpassing the damage threshold. In my opinion of its actual purpose in the canon universe, the Drop Shield is a portable Armour Lock-like utility usable by any personnel without shielding system. It does not heal the user (that's simply a gameplay factor) but it does offer protection similar to the Bubble Shield. Jetpack, as Jugus has said, is limited in its function for gameplay balance. This also applies to Active-Camouflage, which would not have the user's radar jammed and would provide periods of invisibility similar to a Stealth Elite. Hologram, I would assume, would be similar as its game counterpart if one to apply it in the canon universe; I can't really think of anything wrong about Hologram being in the canon universe.- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 17:46, 16 November 2010 (EST)
Basically, yeah. However, despite the similar naming, I still think that the Armor Lock ability and the armor lockdown used to protect from impacts are not the same thing, since the lockdown makes the armor stiffen while increasing the pressure of the hydrostatic gel to maximum, as explained in First Strike. I'm not sure if an enhanced energy shield such as Armor Lock would even protect from heavy impacts; it seems more suitable against incoming attacks. In my opinion, Armor Lock could exist as a shield enhancing device as depicted in the game, but not necessarily as powerful. As for the "sprint" plug, outside gameplay context, I guess the attachment would radically increase the user's movement speed, much more so than the sprinting speed in the game. They did provide a canon explanation for it though, so I'm assuming it's canon to some degree. Hologram would probably work similarly to a Holo-Drone, only a lot simpler and easier to produce. We don't see a projector drone in-game, but then again, we don't see the device that projects Drop Shield either. In the end, one must always be sure to take in-game features with a grain of salt; in the case of Armor Abilities, Bungie was generous enough to come up with canon explanations of some kind. The base concept behind each ability may be canon, but we still don't need to assume everything seen in the game is. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 18:22, 16 November 2010 (EST)
Well, there is the slight issue of the Hologram being able to project in full color when before both UNSC and Covenant holograms appeared to be stuck displaying just one color. But on the main subject, there seems to be no problem with Armor Abilities being canon, albeit as adjusted for gameplay. Said abilities seem to be perfectly in realm for both factions to produce, and it's sure that they would. It does bring up a question though, about, say Active Camoflauge, which was once "one-time use" and now is a reusable device. But that's just a minor issue. Tuckerscreator(stalk) 18:11, 16 November 2010 (EST)

Subtank. I know that all of NOBLE Team and SPARTAN-117 can lock their armor. BUT, I think your talking about a different kind of locking. Do you mean to say that in the canon, Armor Lock is just super hardening your armor for a few seconds, and doesn't have to do with your shield? Vegerot (talk) 18:38, 16 November 2010 (EST)!!!!!!!!!!

Read again; "it overcharges the shielding system akin to an overshield for a short period".- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 19:24, 16 November 2010 (EST)

But the Master Chief SPARTAN-117 didn't overcharge his shield, he stiffened (bow chicka bow wow) while increasing the pressure of the hydrostatic gel to maximum. Vegerot (talk) 19:43, 16 November 2010 (EST)!!!!!!!

I guess that's the only flaw with my theory. Perhaps there's two levels of armour locking; the first being overcharging the shields which would be visible if there is an opposing force applied and the second being the increase pressure of gel. But again, John's shield could have been overcharged but since nothing is reacting with the armour, we don't see it in the cutscene... similar to what happened in ToTS. The visual effects of Armour Lock in Reach could simply be for awesome/epic design and might not present the most canon appearance. But again, none of this is official. - 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 20:07, 16 November 2010 (EST)

Why does that happen?[edit]

Why, does sometimes, one could see the armor abilities stick out of peoples' backs? Vegerot (talk) 11:23, 29 May 2011 (EDT)!

Halo 4[edit]

Considering that several armor abilities will be returning in Halo 4, such as the Hologram and Jetpack, I think that either a new section should be added for the upcoming and updated abilities, or that available information should be grafted into the existing sections as seperate paragraphs. --Delta1138 SnooPING AS usual I see 17:12, 24 May 2012 (EDT)

Separate them by game. It's much more organized and easier to find the info you're looking for. Bioniclepluslotr 02:27, 10 July 2012 (EDT)

Better presentation?[edit]

I've been thinking of improving the presentation of armor abilities using a table design currently used in MJOLNIR Mk VI. I got a design up and ready but am withholding it to see if I should implement it. Anyone object to this?— subtank 02:58, 15 February 2013 (EST)

Can we see a test of that table in this section, perhaps? Tuckerscreator(stalk) 03:25, 15 February 2013 (EST)

Sprint
Feel the need? Engage this Ability for a burst of speed that's great for quickly covering ground or escaping sticky situations.

The Sprint ability allows the player to move at an increased speed for approximately four seconds. In campaign, it is the default armor ability. Its pickup color is green. When activated, the player's character model will pant heavily. The sprinting scales with the player's movement speed; the faster the player moves, the faster the player sprints.

Canonically, the "Sprint" function operates by bypassing the safety limiters of the MJOLNIR actuators and "muscles", allowing better performance at the expense of heat regulation, overheating the user if used for prolonged periods. This "hack" was developed by Catherine-B320.

Gameplay notes: four (4) seconds

Speaking of which, can anyone confirm the S-12 Jetpack (Halo 4 jetpack) is the same one as the portable jump jet (Halo: Reach jetpack)? This page on Waypoint says, "The S-12 Jump-Jet Pack is, like the systems which came before it, a gravity mitigation device latched to the back of infantry BDU, allowing personnel to traverse vertically challenging terrain and generally be more mobile in the battlefield.
