Strongholds is a multiplayer gametype for Halo 5: Guardians and Halo Wars 2, that focuses on capturing three static territories. Strongholds was featured in week 3 of the multiplayer beta and playable on Eden, Empire, and Regret.[1]

Gameplay

Halo 5: Guardians

Strongholds plays almost exactly like 3 Plots in previous Halo titles, where you capture three different territories to earn points. Territories was replaced with Dominion in Halo 4 eventually leading to Strongholds in Halo 5: Guardians. In Strongholds, the first team to score 100 points wins the game. Scoring points requires teams to capture at least two out of three non-moving bases and defend it from the enemy team. The mode was designed so that it would be difficult to control all three points at the same time without stretching one's team too thin.[2]

Halo Wars 2

Strongholds returns in Halo Wars 2 as a gametype, altered to suit the needs of a Real-time strategy game. In Strongholds, UNSC and Banished forces fight to control points on the map. These points appear as minibase construction sites that, when built upon, will construct a UNSC or Banished Stronghold. The UNSC Stronghold comes is a UNSC Minibase with a Barracks, Garage and Airpad automatically attached while the Banished Stronghold is a Banished Minibase that comes with a Raid Camp, Foundry and Apex attached. This allows the controlling player to quickly begin manufacturing units.

At the beginning of the game, all players start with unlimited Supplies and Power. The team that controls the most Stronghold structures on the map at the end of the game are the victors.
